In 2005, members of the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) formed the Injection Support Team (IST). A community-based research project examined this drug-user-led intervention through observation of team activities, over 30 interviews with team members, and 9 interviews with people reached by the team. The IST is composed of recognized "hit doctors," who perform outreach in the open d...

Electrical injection of spin-polarized electrons into a semiconductor, large spin diffusion length, and an integration friendly platform are desirable ingredients for spin-based devices. Here we demonstrate lateral spin injection and detection in germanium nanowires, by using ferromagnetic metal contacts and tunnel barriers for contact resistance engineering. Using data measured from over 80 sa...

We study hole transport behavior of InGaN/GaN light-emitting diodes with the dual wavelength emission method. It is found that at low injection levels, light emission is mainly from quantum wells near p-GaN, indicating that hole transport depth is limited in the active region. Emission from deeper wells only occurs under high current injection. However, with Mg-doped quantum barriers, holes pen...

The authors examine the electrical properties of ultrathin MgO barriers grown on 001 InAs epilayers and the dependence on InAs surface pretreatment and growth conditions. Pretreatment improves the yield of tunnel junctions and changes the roughness of the interface between oxide and semiconductor. Electrical characterization confirms that tunnel barriers with appropriate values of interface res...
