Certain types of chlorosis of leaves of green plants' are universally attributed to deficiencies or unbalanced conditions of one or more of the essential mineral elements. Agreement does not always exist, however, as to whether a specific type of leaf-symptom pattern is related to total content of the deficient element or only to a specific fraction of it. This is particularly true of the presu...

Hawaiian plants exposed to volcanic sulfur dioxide showed interspecific differences in leaf injury that are related to sulfur dioxide-induced changes in stomatal condutance. Species with leaves that did not close stomata developed either chlorosis or necrosis, whereas leaves of Metrosideros collina closed stomata and showed no visual symptoms of sulfur dioxide stress.

The screening of 114 groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) genotypes (61 advanced breeding lines and 53 releasedcultivars) was undertaken in the plots to identify iron-efficient tolerant lime-induced ironchlorosis. The crop grown intensity chlorosis top five leaves rated for visual chlorotic rating(VCR) score on a 1-5 scale percentage plants showing deficiency symptoms at 10, 20, 30 65 daysafter emerg...

Onie of the most iinportanit forms of chlorosis (3, 4) still widely distribuited in some of the best eitrus areas is that which may occur when the soil containis aii abunidainee of calcium carbonate. An extenisive survey of soils iu citrus orchards in sotutherni Californiia has showni that orchard soils may coiltaiui conisiderable caleium carboniate without the leaves of the trees show-iug" sym...

Melatonin has recently been demonstrated to play important roles in the regulation of plant growth, development, and abiotic and biotic stress responses. However, the possible involvement of melatonin in Fe deficiency responses and the underlying mechanisms remained elusive in Arabidopsis thaliana. In this study, Fe deficiency quickly induced melatonin synthesis in Arabidopsis plants. Exogenous...

Ratoon sugarcane plantlets in southern China have suffered a serious chlorosis problem in recent years. To reveal the causes of chlorosis, plant nutrition in chlorotic sugarcane plantlets and the role of manganese (Mn) in this condition were investigated. The study results showed that the pH of soils growing chlorotic plantlets ranged from 3.74 to 4.84. The symptoms of chlorosis were similar to...
