The demand for content-based management and real-time manipulation of audio data is constantly increasing. This paper presents a method to identify temporal regions, in a segment of co-channel speech, as being either single-speaker or multispeaker speech. The state of the art approach for this purpose is the kurtosis. In this paper, a set of complementary time-domain and frequency-domain featur...

Abst rac t Thc papcr propose a new approach in order to design a generic microparts feeder. The method based on a classification scheme allows to emerge the principal characteristics of each studies solutions. The different criteria take into account the specifities of the micro world and moreover the main characteristics for the feeding functions. Thus, we analyse three systems and confront th...

This paper investigates the relation between the sound patterns of interjections and their functional realisation in the discourse process. It considers whether certain interjection functions tend to have particular sound distributions. In order to address these questions a classification scheme for American English nonlexical interjections in terms of discourse markers is also presented.

The paper presents a general primal space classification scheme of necessary and sufficient criteria for the error bound property incorporating the existing conditions. Several primal space derivative-like objects – slopes – are used to characterize the error bound property of extended-real-valued functions on metric sapces.

Measurement efficiency is of concern when a large number of observations are required to obtain reliable estimates for parametric models of vision. The standard entropy-based Bayesian adaptive testing procedures addressed the issue by selecting the most informative stimulus in sequential experimental trials. Noninformative, diffuse priors were commonly used in those tests. Hierarchical adaptive...

The exotic baryon Θ + (1540 MeV) is visualised as an expected (iso) rota-tional excitation in the Chiral Soliton Model. It is also argued as a Pentaquark baryon state in a constituent quark model with strong diquark correlations. I contrast the two points of view; observe the similarities and differences between the two pictures.

In the early 2000s, the term ‘two-sided network’ has been coined to describe a form of organizing economic activities related to novel uses of information technology. While it is evident that two-sided networks make use of the novel possibilities of information technologies to organize economic activities, they have not yet been studied from an institutional perspective to shed light on the nat...

In this study, using the common classification systems of IGBP-17, IGBP-9, IPCC-5 and TC (vegetation, wetlands and others only), we studied spatial and areal inconsistencies in the three most recent multi-resource land cover products in a complex mountain-oasis-desert system and quantitatively discussed the uncertainties in classification system conversion. This is the first study to compare th...

In this paper we present a quantitative comparison between two approaches, Graph Kernels and Symbolic Learning, within a classification scheme. The experimental case-study is the predictive toxicology evaluation, that is the inference of the toxic characteristics of chemical compounds from their structure. The results demonstrate that both approaches are comparable in terms of accuracy, but pre...
