Averaging is one of the basic methods of statistical analysis of experimental data where the response of the system is periodic or quasi-periodic. As long as the noise are Gaussian, the standard averaging leads to good results and effective noise reduction. However, when the distortions have impulsive nature, then such an approach leads to a deterioration of the system. In this case the robust ...

This paper presents a new method for suppressing noise in video sequences. The filter is an extension of the sigma filter. It uses local measurements to obtain noise reduction while preserving the image edges and details. By using a special defined weighting function, this filter can reduce both Gaussian and impulse noise effectively.

This paper describes a new method for design of linear phase finite impulse response (FIR) filters. This new approach, based on the ε-insensitive loss function, allows the design process to take into account not only constraints specified in the frequency domain, but also constraints on the output, time domain, signal. The performances of the proposed approach are shortly illustrated with a des...

Recent studies indicate that the extent of perceived motion smear is attenuated asymmetrically during smooth pursuit eye movements, based on the relative directions of the target and eye motion. We conducted two experiments to determine if the reduction of perceived smear during pursuit might be associated with an acceleration of the temporal impulse response function (TIRF). In Experiment 1, t...

monumental changes occurring on a daily basis have altered the world into a global village of expanding technology and shrinking geography in which preparing language learners for intercultural communication seems to be a sine qua non for modern language education. employing a cross-sectional design in its first phase, this study investigated the intercultural sensitivity and language proficien...

Background and purpose: Threshold contrast sensitivity could be considered as an important indicator of visual function in thalassemic patients. In this study the threshold of contrast sensitivity was investigated in patients with major and minor thalassemia and normal individuals. Material & methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 30 patients of thalassemia major (Desferal depen...
