Hibiscus sabdariffa (HS) is an edible medicinal plant, indigenous to India, China and Thailand and is used in Ayurveda and traditional medicine. Alcoholic extract of HS leaves (HSEt) was studied for its anti-hyperammonemic and antioxidant effects in brain tissues of ammonium chloride-induced hyperammonemic rats. Oral administration of HSEt (250 mg kg(-1) body weight) significantly normalizes th...

cases with hirschsprung’s disease show the functional intestinal obstruction. obstruction in these patients may lead to bacterial overgrowth with stasis and inflammation of the colon. bacterial overgrowth can cause hyperammonemia that makes lethargy and loss of conscious and finally admitting in icu. the purpose of this case report is to present a case that had hirschsprung’s disease and referr...

Valproic acid is commonly used in the treatment of both focal and generalized epilepsies and is often tolerated well. Valproic acid is usually tolerated well, but serious complications, including hepatotoxicity and hyperammonemic encephalopathy, may occur. Here, we report a case of valproic acidinduced hyperammonemic encephalopathy on concomitant use with lacosamide.

Oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy is widely used to treat advanced cancer. Oxaliplatin-induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy is rarely reported. Here, we report a case of oxaliplatin-induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy occurring after gemcitabine plus oxaliplatin (GEMOX) chemotherapy in a patient with pancreatic cancer. A 76-year-old man received GEMOX regimen as first-line treatment for pancrea...

Valproic acid currently is used as an anticonvulsant medication with a broad spectrum of activity. It usually is used in seizures in children and adults that are not controllable by other anticonvulsants. A documented side effect of valproic acid therapy has been the elevation of the serum ammonia level , with the subsequent development of hyperammonemic encephalopathy. We report the brain magn...

The use of valproic acid (VPA) (also known as Depakote, Depakene, and others) frequently results in elevated plasma ammonia. In some people, hyperammonemia may be clinically significant, resulting in hyperammonemic encephalopathy, which may be severe. Valproic acid-induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy may occur in people with normal liver function, despite normal doses and serum levels of VPA....

Worldwide, there have been <25 reported cases of hyperammonemic encephalopathy associated with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in the absence of cirrhosis. We describe a 42-year-old woman who presented with subacute but progressive neurological decline late in her postoperative course, which deteriorated despite multiple conservative and aggressive measures, including hemodialysis, in an attem...

Hyperammonemia is a serious complication of liver disease and may lead to encephalopathy and death. This study investigated the effects of Commiphora molmol resin on oxidative stress, inflammation, and hematological alterations in ammonium chloride- (NH4Cl-) induced hyperammonemic rats, with an emphasis on the glutamate-NO-cGMP and Nrf2/ARE/HO-1 signaling pathways. Rats received NH4Cl and C. mo...
