Received: 24/Feb/2014, Accepted: 7/Jul/2014 Abstract Chromosome-centric human proteome project (C-HPP) is a recent initiative to rationalize and analyze gene-protein and protein-protein interactions in normal and disease conditions. This initiative is aimed to generate the proteomic atlas explaining the molecular architecture of the human body and was initiated in response to the hurdles identi...
The Y chromosome is unusual in being constitutively haploid and escaping recombination for most of its length. This has led to a correspondingly unusual genomic landscape, rich in segmental duplications, which provide a rich environment for the generation of copy number variation (CNV). Interest in the chromosome comes from diverse fields, including infertility research, population genetics, fo...
To investigate the utility of Y chromosome microsatellites for studying human male-lineage evolution, we typed samples from three populations for five tetranucleotide repeats and an Alu insertion polymorphism. We found very high levels of haplotype diversity and evidence that most mutations involve the gain or loss of only one repeat unit, implying that any given microsatellite haplotype may ha...
We studied the catalytic hydrolysis of glutathione by human liver -y-glutamyltransferase [(y-glutamyl)-peptide:amino acid -y-glutamyltransferase, EC 2.3.2.21. Glutamate production from glutathione was maximal at pH 7.4 (37 #{176}C). Kinetically, the liver enzyme is similar to human kidney ‘y-glutamyltransferase: their respective Km values with glutathione as substrate are similar (0.096 X iO mo...
The major goal of the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP) is to systematically map the entire human proteome with the intent to enhance our understanding of human biology at the cellular level. However, this goal may be hindered by the lack of quality observations of given proteins due to absence of expression in a given tissue, very low abundance, and expression only in rare samp...
The case for a recent expansion of modern humans from Africa has been strengthened by the finding of monomorphism in part of a Y-linked gene, consistent with the low variability seen in human mitochondrial DNAs.
when we return to the concept of poetry and the age-old discussion about the uselessness or the usefulness of the poets to the private and public state of human beings, originating from plato and aristotles views about poets respectively, there emerges the question of the role of poetry in human beings lives. in the same manner, with the advance of technology and the daily progress and improvem...
The paper describes some aspects of application migration from Cray Y-MP systems to Cray T90 and T3E platforms at KFA. Major migration steps are outlined and performance data are given for all involved systems. This includes a comparison of T3E and T3D performance for selected Fortran kernels and application codes. Furthermore, communication bandwidth and latency are compared.
Background and purpose: Digital radiography has led to many improvements in radiology. Despite many advantages there are different ideas in determining anatomical landmarks which results in some errors in cephalometric analyses. The aim of this study was to determine the degree of identification differences of anatomical landmarks by conventional and digital lateral cephalometric techniques usi...
