The genome of the moderately thermophilic and halotolerant bacteriumTepidibacillus decaturensisstrain Z9 was sequenced. The draft genome comprises three scaffolds, for a total of 2.95 Mb. As the first sequenced genome within the genusTepidibacillus, 2,895 protein-coding genes, 52 tRNA genes, and 3 rRNA operons were predicted.
Pannonibacter phragmitetus CGMCC9175 is a halotolerant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-degrading bacterium isolated from PAH-contaminated intertidal zone sediment. Here, we report the 5.7-Mb draft genome sequence of this strain, which will provide insights into the diversity of Pannonibacter and the mechanism of PAH degradation in sediments.
Picochlorum soloecismus is a halotolerant, fast-growing, and moderate-lipid-producing microalga that is being evaluated as a renewable feedstock for biofuel production. Herein, we report on an improved high-quality draft assembly and annotation for the nuclear, chloroplast, and mitochondrial genomes of P. soloecismus DOE 101.
Gracilibacillus boraciitolerans JCM 21714(T) has been characterized as a highly boron-tolerant and moderately halotolerant bacterium. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this strain. The genome sequence facilitates an understanding of the biochemical functions of boron and provides a base to identify the gene(s) involved in the boron tolerance mechanism of the strain.
The potential of halotolerant algae isolated from natural resources was used to study CO2 fixation and algal lipid production. Biological fixation of CO2 in photobioreactor in presence of salinity is exploited. The CO2 concentration 1060 ppm gave the highest biomass yield (700 mg dry wt/l), the highest total lipid content (10.33%) with 80% of CO2 removal.
Bacillus pseudalcaliphilus PN-137(T) (DSM 8725) is a Gram-positive, spore-forming, alkaliphilic, and halotolerant bacterium. Here, we report the 4.49-Mb genome sequence of B. pseudalcaliphilus PN-137(T), which will accelerate the application of this alkaliphile and provide useful information for genomic taxonomy and phylogenomics of Bacillus-like bacteria.
The microbial communities transported by Asian desert dust (KOSA) events have attracted much attention as bioaerosols because the transported microorganisms are thought to influence the downwind ecosystems in Korea and Japan. However, the atmospheric microbial community has not been investigated at high altitude in the KOSA arrival area. In this study, to estimate the viability and diversity of...
A strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium (0.6-0.8 x2-3 microm), designated strain Kh10-101T, was isolated from a saltpan (22 degrees 15' N, 69 degrees 1' E) in the vicinity of Port Okha, India. The creamish pigmented colonies of strain Kh10-101T were round, flat and translucent with irregular margins and a smooth surface. The strain possessed up to three subpolar flagella, and was motile by a c...
BACKGROUND Halotolerant bacteria are excellent sources for selecting novel enzymes. Being intrinsically stable and active under high salinities, enzymes from these prokaryotes have evolved to function optimally under extreme conditions, making them robust biocatalysts with potential applications in harsh industrial processes. RESULTS A halotolerant strain LY19 showing lipolytic activity was i...
Halotolerant bacteria are regarded as effective oil-scavengers in the polluted saltern and seawater. In this regard, a halotolerant Planococcus was isolated from oilcontaminated area of Dezful north springs, Iran, due to its capacity in biosurfactant (BS) production. To facilitate hydrocarbons degradation, in the current study, the efficiency of BS production as function of growth rate of the h...
