Urinary Tract infections are one of the most common bacterial infections in human. On the present study urine sample of suspected UTI patients were included. Total 23 samples were found to be positive for bacterial infection in which predominant species was Escherichia coli 13 (56.52%) and 10 (43.48%) were found to be other bacterial species i.e. Proteus spp. 4 (17.3%), Citrobacter spp. 3 (13%)...
Like all other Salmonella typhimurium strains examined, the smooth variants SF1397 (LT2) and 1366 and also their semi-rough and rough derivatives are non-haemolytic. Nevertheless, two haemolysin (Hly) plasmids of E. coli belonging to the inc groups incFIII,IV (pSU316) and incI2 (pHly152) were able to be introduced into these strains by conjugation and stably maintained. A considerable percentag...
voltage-gated K channels in other cell types [Ba 2 mM; Cs 5 mM; TEA (tetraethylammonium) 20 mM; EGTA 1 mM) (Lew & Ferreira, 1978; Egan et ul., 1987) did not, however, alter ouabainand bumetanide-insensitive K uptake. The substitution of CH,SO, for CI in the incubation medium reduced the residual K uptake by about 18%, suggesting that a Cldependent K transport pathway similar to that observed in...
O antigen genes are clustered, with a JUMPstart sequence located upstream. JUMPstart is a 39-bp sequence, present upstream of many polysaccharide gene clusters and also upstream of haemolysin and F factor gene clusters. RfaH is known to regulate the expression of E. coli group II capsule, haemolysin, F factor and the outer core of lipopolysaccharide all of which have the JUMPstart sequence, and...
Aeromonas hydrophila was isolated from 12 (5.3%) of 225 patients with acute gastroenteritis. The present study was determined the virulence of A. hydrophila obtained from patients with diarrhea, among 12 A. hydrophila isolates obtained from stool, 83.3%, 91.6%, 83.3%, 75%, 75%, 50% produced β-haemolysin, protease ,phospholipase, DNase, slime(viscous glycoconjugate material), and have the adhesio...
The effect of monoterpenes on swarming differentiation and haemolysin activity in Proteus mirabilis.
Urinary tract infection by Proteus mirabilis depends on several virulence properties that are coordinately regulated with swarming differentiation. Here we report the antibacterial and anti-swarming effect of seventeen terpenoids, and the effect of subinhibitory concentrations of five selected terpenoids on swarming, biofilm formation and haemolysin activity. The results showed that all the ter...
Various strains of E. coli. and Salmonella typhimurium were studied in vitro for the presence plasmids controlling haemolysin, drug resistance, serum resistance colonization factor etc. They also tested mice to determine probable role on host pathogenicity. To effect associated R-factor pathogenicity virulence S. typhimurium, antibiotic sensitive resistant mice. The experiments showed that enha...
Here we investigate the modulation of solvent isotope effects by the entry of DNA molecules into individual α-haemolysin nanopores. Solvent isotope effects in D2O versus H2O were enhanced (kH/kD ≈ 1.6) compared to the bulk (kH/kD ≈ 1.2), except when the pore was most blocked (kH/kD ≤ 1.1).
