Granulocytic sarcoma, an extramedullary acute myeloid leukemia, is also referred to as chloroma (GS) because of its greenish surface color. Granulocytic sarcoma is rare and difficult t...

Granulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor composed of granulocytic precursor cells. It usually presents as a nodular mass in the course of acute myelogenous leukemia. Rarely, the tumor develops in non-hematological conditions or in a patient with complete remission from the acute myelogenous leukemia. In such cases, aleukemic granulocytic sarcoma can be a preceding sign of systemic leukem...

Hematopoietic neoplasms are known to occur in the setting of HIV. Excluding Kaposi's sarcoma, the neoplasms are generally high-grade lymphoproliferative disorders. Granulocytic sarcoma, an extramedullary hematopoietic malignancy that may precede or occur during the course of acute myeloid leukemia, has rarely been described in the HIV population. We present the fourth documented case, to our kn...

The occurrence of granulocytic sarcoma as a pattern of relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is rare. In this paper, we report a rare case of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) relapsed as a granulocytic sarcoma of the donor type. The patient was diagnosed as having AML and underwent an allo-HSCT from his matched sibling donor. Fifty-seven months after allo-HSCT...

The CNS involvement of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is more commonly manifest as meningeal involvement. Rarely it may present as intravascular tumor aggregates called granulocytic sarcoma which presents as intracranial hemorrhage. We are presenting a case of intracranial, intra-parenchymal granulocytic sarcoma (other names: chloroma, extramedullary myeloblastoma), presenting as acute hemiplegia...

A series of 7 patients with granulocytic sarcoma is presented to illustrate its varied clinical picture. In particular, this condition may present with features which suggest a non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The diagnosis will only be made if a high index of suspicion is maintained and special histopathological methods are used. Granulocytic sarcoma should be treated like an acute myeloid leukaemia.

A granulocytic sarcoma expanded the malar region in a patient with proven myelofibrosis over a 22 month period before undergoing rapid increase in size concomitantly with transformation to acute granulocytic leukaemia in the marrow and the widespread appearance of subcutaneous tumour deposits. Rapid response was obtained with local radiotherapy, and the systemic disease manifestations were cont...
