The hammerhead ribozyme catalyzes RNA cleavage via acid-base catalysis. Whether it does so by general acid-base catalysis, in which the RNA itself donates and abstracts protons in the transition state, as is typically assumed, or by specific acid-base catalysis, in which the RNA plays a structural role and proton transfer is mediated by active-site water molecules, is unknown. Previous biochemi...

Despite advances in the understanding of pathways regulated by the G12 family of heterotrimeric G proteins, much regarding the engagement of this family by receptors remains unclear. We explore here, using the thromboxane A2 receptor TPalpha, the ability of G12 and G13 to report differences in the potency and efficacy of receptor ligands. We were interested especially in the potential of the is...

G12 monoclonal antibody (mAb), one of a library of constructed mAb directed against human sperm proteins, was found by immunoperoxidase staining to label the post-acrosomal and neck regions of fixed human cauda epididymal and ejaculated spermatozoa. Epithelium and fluid of caput epididymis were strongly labelled while there was no staining on testis and efferent ducts. Western lot analysis reve...

Of 731 stool specimens collected from children with diarrhea in Kathmandu, Nepal, from August 2004 through July 2005, 170 (23.3%) tested positive for rotavirus. Reverse transcription-PCR, including a revised G12-specific primer set, identified 56 (32.9%) as G2P[4] and 39 (23.0%) as G12 with P[6], P[8], or P[4].

The hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) protein of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is an important determinant of its virulence. We investigated the role of each of the four functional N-linked glycosylation sites (G1 to G4) of the HN glycoprotein of NDV on its pathogenicity. The N-linked glycosylation sites G1 to G4 at residues 119, 341, 433, and 481, respectively, of a moderately pathogenic NDV st...

BACKGROUND Recent studies on the involvement of the G12 family of heterotrimeric G proteins (Gα12 and Gα13, the products of the GNA12 and GNA13 genes, respectively) in oncogenic pathways have uncovered a link between G12 signaling and cancer progression. However, despite a well characterized role of Rho GTPases, the potential role of secreted factors in the capacity of G12 signaling to promote ...

Gluten content from barley, rye, wheat and in certain oat varieties, must be avoid in individuals with celiac disease. In most of the Western countries, the level of gluten content in food to be considered as gluten-free products is below 20 parts per million measured by ELISA based on specific anti-gluten peptide antibody. However, in beverages or food suffering complex hydrolytic processes as...
