Studies on cell fusion-mediated nuclear reprogramming have led to the breakthrough of the induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell technology. While this technology has neared stem cells to applications more than any other method, the mechanistic bases of reprogramming remain largely unsolved. In this context, comparative studies of oocyte and cell fusion-mediated reprogramming hold the greatest pro...

Compartmental structures are the basis of a number of developing systems, including parts of the vertebrate head. One of the characteristics of a series of compartments is that mixing between cells in adjacent units is restricted. This is a consequence of differential chemoaffinity between neighbouring cells in adjacent compartments. We set out to determine whether mesenchymal cells in the bran...

1. to determine whether difference in birth body mass influenced growth performance in pipistrellus kuhlii we studied a total of 12 captive-born neonates. bats were assigned to two body mass groups: light birth body mass (lbw: 0.89 ± 0.05, n=8) and heavy birth body mass (hbw: 1.35 ± 0.08, n=4). heavier body mass at birth was associated with rapid postnatal growth (body mass and forearm length) ...

We evaluated spleens (n = 26), appendices (n = 10) and branchial cleft cysts (n = 6) for TdT-positive cells in pediatric patients. In spleen, appendix and branchial cleft cysts the range of TdT-positivity was 0-13, 0-96 and 0-6 TdT+ cells/hpf, respectively. In spleens, scattered TdT+ cells were seen most frequently in periarteriolar lymphoid sheath regions.

introduction: the value of embryonic stem-like cells in cloning is obvious. production of cloned animals can be achieved by introduction of these cells into a tetraploid embryo. tetraploid embryo is used as a feeder for development of embryonic stem-like cells and can be produced in vitro by electro-fusion of 2-cell embryos. the aim of this study was to ass, essthe effect of voltage alteration a...

Objective(s) Staphylococcus aureus is a foremost source of numerous nosocomial and community acquired infections. Antibiotic therapy for vancomycin resistant S. aureus (VRSA) can not promise the eradication of infections. Since adhesion is the major route of infections, adhesin based vaccine could suppress S. aureus infections. Fibronectin binding protein A (FnBPA) and clumping factor A (ClfA)...

We characterized the expression of sall4, a gene encoding a zinc finger transcription factor involved in the maintenance of embryonic stem cells, in taste buds of zebrafish (Danio rerio). Using an enhancer trap line (ET5), we detected enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) in developing and adult transgenic zebrafish in regions containing taste buds: the lips, branchial arches, and the nasal...

Sub-lethal toxicity of zinc chloride (11.5 ppm) on the respiratory organs of the Channa striata has been analysed. The mucous cells show periodic fluctuations in their number, size and staining properties elaborating larger quantities of sulphated mucopolysaccharides. The respiratory epithelium (RE) of the respiratory (secondary) lamellae (SL) of the gills shows periodic lifting with deformity ...

The structure, ultrastructure and osmoregulatory function of the branchial chamber were investigated in Palaemon elegans (Rathke, 1837) by light microscope, electron microscope and immunohistochemistry methods, respectively. Each chamber possesses a branchiostegite, 3 epipodites and 8 phyllobranchiate gills. The lamellae are attached along the two outer surfaces of the triangular gill axis. Ult...

Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is a morphogen involved in many developmental processes. Injection of cells (5E1) that produce a Shh-blocking antibody causes an attenuation of the Shh response, and this causes vascular malformations and impaired remodeling characterized by hemorrhages and protrusions of the anterior cardinal vein and outflow tract, delayed fusion of the dorsal aortae, impaired branching o...
