A solitary intrasellar plasmacytoma with marked pituitary fossa destruction and yet near normal pituitary gland function is described. We suggest that a minimal disturbance of endocrine function together with a radiologically abnormal pituitary fossa indicates that the primary lesion may lie outside the pituitary fossa.

Fossa navicularis strictures following radical prostatectomy are reported infrequently. We recently experienced a series of fossa strictures following robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RLP). We describe herein our experience to prevent fossa strictures and to determine its etiologic factors. From June 2002 to May 2006, 424 patients underwent robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectom...

BACKGROUND The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence and morphometric features of fossa navicularis, a close radiographic anatomic variation of canalis basilaris medianus of the basiocciput, in a Turkish population using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS The study group consisted of 723 patients (female: 420, male: 303) having CBCT scans. The patient...

Posterior fossa emissary veins are valveless veins that pass through cranial apertures. They participate in extracranial venous drainage of the posterior fossa dural sinuses. The mastoid emissary vein, condylar veins, occipital emissary vein, and petrosquamosal sinus are the major posterior fossa emissary veins. We believe that posterior fossa emissary veins can be detected by radiologists befo...

It has been alleged that radioisotope scanning of posterior fossa lesions is of little value (1-8) or at best, difficult (9,10) and frequently unrewarding (11). Some clinics even report the virtual abandonment of posterior fossa scanning (12,13). On the other hand, there are those who maintain that scanning of the posterior fossa is a worthwhile adjunct in the evaluation of lesions in that re g...

Posterior fossa syndrome is characterized by cerebellar dysfunction, oromotor/oculomotor apraxia, emotional lability and mutism in patients after infratentorial injury. The underlying neuroanatomical substrates of posterior fossa syndrome are unknown, but dentatothalamocortical tracts have been implicated. We used pre- and postoperative neuroimaging to investigate proximal dentatothalamocortica...

The maxilary nerve can be block in the pterygopalatine fossa, entering from oral cavity via greater palatine canal. The aim of this study was to analyse the volume of the pterygopalatine fossa and its relationship with upper facial height and cephalic indexes. In 71 human adults skulls, without sex distinction, was determined the volume of the pterygopalatine fossa and cephalic and upper facial...

Until recently, angiography has been of little help in the diagnosis of mass lesions of the posterior fossa. Advances in neuroradiology have now made posterior fossa angiography the procedure of choice in many cases. The anatomy and radiography of the veins of the posterior fossa have been detailed by Huang and Wolf (1965, 1966). Reports of angiographic (especially venographic) features of post...

Cerebellar and hindbrain malformations, such as cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), vermis hypoplasia, and Dandy-Walker malformation, occur in dogs as well as in humans. Neuroimaging is essential for a precise description of these malformations and defining translational animal models. Neuroimaging is increasingly performed in puppies, but there is a lack of data on developmental changes in the caudal ...

OBJECTIVE We describe an endoscopic transoral approach for treating benign lesions of the glenoid fossa with or without infratemporal fossa involvement. STUDY DESIGN Description and validation of surgical technique on living humans. METHODS Excision of benign lesions arising from the glenoid fossa was achieved in five patients through a transoral endoscopic approach. Using 0- and 45-degree ...
