A method for determining platinum in biological materials by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry has been developed for use in pharmacological studies of platinum antitumor compounds. Tissue digests are analyzed in a heated graphite atomizer, with use of background correction and ramp temperature charring. We have overcome problems of apparent loss of platinum in Pt-supplemented tissue sam...

Two interlaboratory surveys of urine nickel analyses were performed in which eight or nine urine samples were distributed to laboratories in seven nations for measurements of nickel concentrations by atomic absorption spectrometry. In both surveys, wide discrepancies were observed in the values for urine nickel concentrations that were obtained in different laboratories by various analytical me...

This analytical method for determination of Sr in plasma and urine involves flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS). Drying, charring, and atomization were optimized with respect to temperature, temperature ramp, and duration for Sr in dilute HNO3 and Sr in plasma diluted 20-fold with dilute HNO3. Calibration curves (r greater than 0.995) were linear in the concentration range 5-25...

Ž . Ž . ABSTRACT: The local spin-density LSD functional and Perdew]Wang 91 PW91 generalized gradient approximations to atomization energies of molecules are investigated. We discuss the coupling-constant dependence of the atomization energy and why exchange errors of the functionals are greater than exchange]correlation errors. This fact helps to justify hybrid schemes which mix some exact exch...

Bullet residue and primer particles were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive analysis (SEM-EDA) and by flame and flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The residue and particles were on cloth targets around entrance holes produced by bullets fired at distances of 10 to 200 m. Primer particles and their chemical constituents were almost always detected b...

Microencapsulation techniques are widely applied in the field of pharmaceutical production to control drugs release in time and in physiological environments. Ultrasonic-assisted atomization is a new technique to produce microencapsulated systems by a mechanical approach. Interest in this technique is due to the advantages evidenceable (low level of mechanical stress in materials, reduced energ...

I describe a sensitive, specific, automated method for determination of mercury in urine by the "flameless atomic absorption" technique. One can analyze 20 samples per hour, with less than 0.5-ml samples of urine. The detection limit is 0.01 mumol/liter (2mug/liter) and the mean coefficient of variation 12%. The procedure is being used to monitor mercury excretion by workers exposed to mercury.

A detailed understanding of the driving mechanisms behind primary atomization is crucial to the optimization of sprays for efficient combustion in modern propulsion systems. Many challenges are associated with simulating realistic turbulent atomization, such as the multiplicity of length and time scales of the turbulent flow field and gas-liquid interface, discontinuous fluid properties and pre...

The increase in pollutant emissions has generated the development of clean technologies and encouraged use alternative fuels like syngas. Flameless combustion is one most promising due to lower pollutants high thermal efficiency. In present study, regenerative furnace simulation under flameless was carried out using a fuel mixture 70% natural gas 30% syngas with H2 content (in vol.); by mean CF...
