Expression of recombinant proteins using a secretion system can minimize co-purification of contaminating host proteins. Production of His-tagged recombinant proteins in the yeast alpha-factor secretion system has previously required a fermenter system to control the growth conditions such as pH of the yeast culture. We describe an inexpensive non-fermenter system for the production of secreted...

growth-promotant activity in chicks6). As in the related compounds L-68 1 ,2177) and the phenelfamycins8), A83016F lacks the pyridone moiety commonin most members of this class. The strain A83016 also produces several kinamycin-type antibiotics including the novel compound A83016A9). This paper describes the isolation, structural elucidation, and antimicrobial activity of A83016F. Strain A8301 ...

The genome sequence of Acetobacter aceti 1023, an acetic acid bacterium adapted to traditional vinegar fermentation, comprises 3.0 Mb (chromosome plus plasmids). A. aceti 1023 is closely related to the cocoa fermenter Acetobacter pasteurianus 386B but possesses many additional insertion sequence elements.

We present the draft genome of Thermanaerothrix daxensis GNS-1, a thermophilic member of the Chloroflexi phylum. This organism was initially characterized as a nonmotile, strictly anaerobic fermenter; however, genome analysis demonstrates that it encodes genes for a flagellum and multiple pathways for aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

Dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF-2) is a newly described gram-negative bacterium that can produce serious infections in the compromised host. We are reporting a case of DF-2 septicaemia in a splenectomized patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The clinical spectrum of infections due to the DF-2 bacterium, the difficulties in establishing the diagnosis and the preferential treatment are discussed.

A 78-year-old female developed microbial keratitis from which corneal scrapings grew dysgonic fermenter 2. The infection initially responded poorly to a combination of topical antibiotics and corticosteroids but healed with intensive antibiotic therapy. There was no systemic predisposition to infection, and only feline exposure had occurred. Close association with a cat probably contaminated th...
