The course and ramification of the vessels of the lower limbs have long received attention from anatomists and surgeons. During educational dissection with undergraduate students of the Department of Anatomy of the NRI Medical College we observed in a male cadaver of about 55 years the rare variation of the profunda femoris artery originating from the medial side of the femoral artery and cours...

Accidental intra-arterial injection as a consequence of drug misuse has been described in both the upper and lower limbs. We present a case in which a drug abuser injected heroin into his femoral artery. This resulted in necrosis of the femoral artery requiring an autologous graft. A life threatening haemorrhage necessitated ligation of the common femoral artery. His limb survived.

The most common anatomical variation of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) is hypoplasia or aplasia associated with a persistent sciatic artery. We report a case exhibiting SFA hypoplasia combined with connection of the deep femoral artery (DFA) to the popliteal artery (in other words, the DFA became the popliteal artery). A 41-year-old man was admitted with a crush injury of the left foot. C...

We present a case of osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH) that occurred after stent angiography of femoral artery for the treatment of arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) of left inferior limb in a 76-year-old woman. No case of late collapse of femoral head as a complication of endovascular procedure such as stent placement has been previously documented. We considered that ONFH occurred after de...

Standard surgical methods for managing true aneurysms of the deep femoral artery have not been established because these aneurysms are rare. An 85-year-old man, who had a ruptured aneurysm of the deep femoral artery, underwent aneurysmectomy and distal reconstruction with a contralateral autologous vein graft. Three-dimensional computed tomography is a valuable diagnostic modality to evaluate s...

BACKGROUND Management of the infected femoral artery pseudoaneurysm has remained controversial. Although common femoral artery ligation and local debridement is an acceptable approach, some patients need revascularization for the treatment of leg ischemia or intermittent claudication. In this study, we report obturator bypass as an alternative technique that has been done at Sina Hospital, Tehr...

In infants, the most common cause of femoral artery is thrombosis and iatrogenic arterial injuries usually occur after femoral artery catheterization procedures. Management of this complication includes heparin infusion, thrombolytic agents, interventional radiologic procedures, surgical thrombectomy and by-pass surgery. Signs of arterial thrombosis developed after femoral artery catheterizatio...

The difference in HDL-lipid constituents was examined in sera from the hepatic vein and femoral artery. In HDL, HDL2 and HDL3 the most pronounced difference existed in the triglyceride concentration which was significantly higher in the femoral artery as compared to the hepatic vein. The cholesterol and phospholipid concentrations of HDL2 alone but not of HDL3 were also significantly higher in ...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between bone mineral density (BMD) and arterial stiffness as a preclinical atherosclerosis criterion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Carotid and femoral artery Doppler ultrasonography and arterial stiffness measurements were performed on 113 female patients referred for BMD measurements. RESULTS The cross-sectional compliance and cross...
