METHODS. PPAR-g expression in human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and bovine choroidal endothelial cells (CECs) was determined using an RNase protection assay and Western blot analysis. Two PPAR-g ligands, troglitazone (TRO) and rosiglitazone (RSG; 0.1–20 mM), were used to assess effects on RPE and CEC proliferation and migration and CEC tube formation in response to vascular endotheli...
The results of Doppler haemodynamic investigations in electrically burned patients are described in this paper. A comparison with other burned patients is also provided. The following differences were found between the two groups: 1. diminished compliance of the myocardium in electrically burned patients; 2. markedly elevated ejection time measured by flow time. The results remain unclear and r...

We present eight cases of chemical burns of the eyes from titanium tetrachloride, an acidic corrosive liquid. However it causes severe chemical burns which have a protracted course and features more akin to severe alkali burns. Injuries related to titanium tetrachloride should be treated seriously and accordingly appropriate management is suggested.
LACRIMATORS are compounds which, in gaseous form in extremely small concentrations, act as conjunctival irritants. Chemically, almost all are halogenized organic substances. Because of a loose mesomer connexion the halogen atom is very reactive. Duke-Elder (1954) listed more than ten liquid or solid tear producers. Chloracetophenon (Fig. 1) has been that most frequently used for many years, and...

The review presents data on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in the diagnostics of diseases anterior segment eye. In addition to qualitative assessment pathological changes, method gives quantitative characteristics vascular density. OCTA is informative for vasculature evaluation burns, inflammatory diseases, ischemic injury, and intratumoral vessels visualization.
