The Ethanolic extract of whole plant of Euphorbia hirta was screened for burn wound healing activity in rats as 2% W/W cream. The study was carried out based on the assessment of percentage reduction in original wound. It showed significant burn wound healing activity.
Euphorbia nivulia is a tall deciduous tree belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae. It is mainly found in India and is reported to have tremendous therapeutic potential. Herbal medicine may cause damage to genetic material which may lead to an increased risk of cancer and other diseases. Hence, it becomes important to assess the genotoxicity assessment of herbal medicines. The present study was c...
Euphorbia mosaic virus (EuMV) was found in a symptomatic passionfruit (Passiflora edulis) plant from Homestead, Florida, USA, as well as in the symptomatic weed Euphorbia heterophylla This is the first identification of EuMV in Florida and the United States and the first report of a natural infection of passionfruit by EuMV.
A revision of the Euphorbia dioscoreoides complex (subgenus Agaloma) is provided. Euphorbia dioscoreoides ssp. attenuata and E. eglandulosa, both from Mexico, are proposed as new; E. digitata is reduced to synonymy under E. subpeltata. Representative specimens are cited, and distributional and ecological data are provided.
A novel segetane (1: ) and jatrophane diterpene (2: ), together with five known diterpenoids possessing segetane (3: ), jatrophane (4: ), and ingenane skeletons (5 - 7: ), were isolated from the methanol extract of Euphorbia taurinensis All. The structure elucidation of the compounds was performed by means of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HRESIMS and 1D (1H, J-modulated spin-echo ...
Five ingenane compounds, 1-5, kansuinins A and B, isolated from Euphorbia kansui, and their derivatives 7 and 9 were tested for termiticidal activity against the Japanese termite, Reticulitermes speratus. At 72 hours after treatment, the ingenane compounds 1 to 5 caused 100% mortality in R. speratus at 50, 25 and 12.5 microg/disk, respectively, except for compound 1, which gave a mortality rate...
he present study was aimed at assessing the antimicrobial potential of various extracts of Euphorbia thymifolia against human pathogenic strains of Salmonella typhimurium and Shigella boydii. The antibacterial activity was determined by agar disc diffusion and broth microdilution techniques. The results showed that the growth of the organisms were inhibited by both acetone and hexane extracts o...
Hepatic diseases are serious health issues as various pharmaceuticals, xenobiotics, environmental/chemical pollutants, some natural products and dietary supplements when used in overdose have tendency to cause hepatotoxicity. Present study was aimed at investigating hepatoprotective activity of aqueous methanolic extract of Euphorbia prostrata against paracetamol and carbon tetrachloride induce...
Three compounds, 20-O-acetyl-[3-O-(2'E,4'Z)-decadienoyl]-ingenol (1), 20-O-acetyl-[5-O-(2'E,4'Z)-decadienoyl]-ingenol (2) and 3-O-(2'E,4'Z)-decadienoylingenol (3), were isolated from Euphorbia kansui under the bioassay-guided method. Each compound showed the same antinematodal activity against the nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, at a minimum effective dose (MED) of 5 microg/cotton ball.
Seven new carolignans, including two pairs of enantiomers (±)-erythro-7'-methylcarolignan E (1a/1b) and (±)-threo-7'-methylcarolignan E (2a/2b), (+)-threo-carolignan E (3a), (+)-erythro-carolignan E (4a), and (-)-erythro-carolignan Z (5), together with four known lignans (3b, 4b, 6, and 7) and six polyphenols (8-13) were isolated from the aerial parts of Euphorbia sikkimensis. The structures of...
