BACKGROUND Bronchoscopy with transbronchial and endobronchial biopsy and transbronchial needle aspiration is an important diagnostic tool in the pulmonologist's armamentarium. Safety in patients with pulmonary hypertension is controversial and many bronchoscopists consider this as a contraindication for the procedure. OBJECTIVES To evaluate safety of bronchoscopy in patients with echocardiogr...
INTRODUCTION Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is the most common form of infection by Aspergillus species among immunocompromised patients. Although this infection frequently involves the lung parenchyma, it is unusual to find it limited to the tracheobronchial tree, a condition known as invasive aspergillus tracheobronchitis. CASE PRESENTATION A 65 year-old Hispanic man from Bolivia with a h...
Background and Objectives: Endobronchial ultrasound elastography is a new technique for describing the stiffness of tissue during endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA). The aims of this study were to investigate the diagnostic value of Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) elastography for distinguishing the difference between benign and malignant lymph nodes am...
We report a case of lung adenocarcinoma presenting as pure ground glass opacity (GGO) and diagnosed by bronchoscopy with the use endobronchial ultrasound with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS). The lesion was indistinguishable by real-time fluoroscopy but simultaneous endobronchial ultrasound scanning of the involved lung segment showed a hyperechoic shadow that was subtly more intense than a typical sn...
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a safe and effective technique for the sampling of mediastinal and hilar adenopathies. We describe the first reported case of pulmonary artery intramural hematoma after EBUS-TBNA puncture of this artery. The complication was visualized by ultrasound and resolved spontaneously.
BACKGROUND Several guidelines recommend computed tomography scans for populations with high-risk for lung cancer. The number of individuals evaluated for peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPL) will probably increase, and with it non-surgical biopsies. Associating a guidance method with a target confirmation technique has been shown to achieve the highest diagnostic yield, but the utility of broncho...
