Lithiomethyl trimethylammonium triflate, prepared from tetramethylammonium triflate, cyclopropanates several styrenes and stilbenes with electron-donating and selected electron-withdrawing substituents efficiently. Kinetic data support a stepwise nucleophilic addition-ring closure mechanism for this methylenation.

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric 1,6-addition of diarylphosphines to electron-deficient dienes was developed through rational selection of electron-withdrawing groups on the dienes. Various chiral allylic phosphine derivatives were synthesized in good yields with high enantioselectivity (up to 96% ee).

trimethylsilylation of a variety of alcohols and phenols, in the presence of silica chloride, using hexamethyldisilazane (hmds) in solution and under solvent-free conditions is reported. trimethylsilyl ethers were formed in excellent yields both for aliphatic alcohols and phenols without having an electron-withdrawing group. in addition, sio2-cl can be recovered and reused after drying.
