Eccrine syringofibroadenoma is a rare benign neoplasia derived from acrosyryngium cells of the eccrine sudoriferous glands. It affects the extremities of elderly individuals as solitary tumors, or may also present as multiple lesions. There are controversies about the pathogenesis and differentiation of the tumor. Eccrine syringofibroadenoma has been associated with subjacent conditions, such a...

Eccrine porocarcinoma is an extremely rare malignancy of the eccrine sweat gland. It is believed to arise from the intra-epithelial portion of eccrine sweat glands. It can either arise de novo or it can develop in a long standing eccrine poroma. It often occurs in the elderly, with the mean age of occurrence being 67 years. The tumour favours extremities, particularly the legs and feet. The pro...

An eccrine poroma is a common benign tumour arising from the eccrine sweat gland duct epithelium in the dermo-epidermal region. Its occurrence in the neck region in pediatric age group is a rare entity. Here we report a case of an eccrine poroma in the retro-auricular area just below and behind the lobule of the left pinna in a nine years old child.

The distribution of histo-blood group A type 1, 2 and 3 antigens was investigated using immunohistochemistry in normal human skin and extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD). We used monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) Bioclone-A (BA) and AR-1, which react with histo-blood group A type 1/2, and type 3 antigens, respectively. We found that A type 1, 2 and 3 antigens were expressed in the upper layer of the...

Serine proteases can induce cell signaling by stimulating G-protein-coupled receptors, called proteinase-activated receptors (PAR's) on a variety of epithelial cells. While PAR-2, one such receptor, activates cell signaling in a secretory cell line derived from human sweat glands, there was no information on their presence and effects on intact sweat glands. PAR-2 presence and activation of ecc...

Editor Congenital eccrine naevus is a rare clinical entity. Fewer than 20 cases had been reported, and only three cases were congenital. 1,2 We present a child with congenital localized hyperhidrosis on the forearm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first congenital eccrine naevus successfully treated with botulinum toxin type A. A 12-year-old girl with no significant past medical histo...

Neoplastic lesions of the skin are among the most common human malignancies. They originate from different skin tissues and structures such as:  epidermis  skin appendages (hair follicles, sebaceous glands, eccrine sweat glands, apocrine sweat glands)  pigment cells (melanocytes)  mesenchymal structures (fibrous tissue, fatty tissue, blood and lymphatic vessels, muscles)  nerves and APUD c...

A 32-year-old woman had several brownish and pruritic lesions over her left buttock and leg that had been present since she was 12 years old. She observed a progressive increase in size and number of the lesions, with increased sweating on and around them. Examination revealed several brownish, irregular nodules, 1–1.5 cm in diameter, and firm to palpation, along the lower left limb and followi...

Eccrine sweat glands are generally considered to be a possible epidermal stem cell source. Here we compared the multilayered epithelia formed by epidermal keratinocytes and those formed by eccrine sweat gland cells. We demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo the capability of human eccrine sweat gland cells to form a stratified interfollicular epidermis substitute on collagen hydrogels. This is ...
