Agminated melanocytic nevus is an uncommon type of mole, characterized by a local group of macular or papular pigmented lesions, well demarcated, without a common pigmented background. This pattern has also been associated with Spitz nevi, dysplastic melanocytic nevi, and non-melanocytic lesions. We describe the onset of an acquired agminated melanocytic nevus after dabrafenib treatment. Our cas...
IMPORTANCE The BRAF V600E mutation accounts for the majority of BRAF mutations found in cutaneous melanoma and is also commonly found in nevi. We used dermoscopy-targeted sampling and a microbiopsy device coupled with DNA sequence analysis to highlight BRAF V600E heterogeneity within a multicomponent melanocytic proliferation. This sampling technique demonstrates the prospect of in vivo applica...
Epidermal nevus syndrome is a rare congenital disorder, characterized by epidermal nevi and multiple organ involvement. Multicystic kidney disease has been very rarely reported in this syndrome. Here is the report of a boy presented with multiple epidermal nevi, cardiac anomaly, seizure attack, hemi hypertrophy, and multicystic dysplastic kidney complicated with Wilms' tumor. According to this ...
BACKGROUND Patients with the atypical mole syndrome have multiple dysplastic nevi that appear to be randomly distributed on certain preferred anatomical sites such as the upper back. These dysplastic nevi are thought to be acquired melanocytic nevi that begin appearing at puberty. To our knowledge, the presence of agminated atypical (dysplastic) nevi has not been reported. OBSERVATION We desc...
The histopathological diagnosis of melanoma can be challenging. No currently used molecular markers accurately distinguish between nevus and melanoma. Recent transcriptome analyses have shown the differential expression of several genes in melanoma progression. Here, we describe a multi-marker diagnostic assay using 5 markers (ARPC2, FN1, RGS1, SPP1, and WNT2) overexpressed in melanomas. Immuno...
It has been just over 4 years, at this writing, since Bernie Ackerman died on December 5, 2008, in New York City. On that day, I lectured at the University of Missouri-Columbia, my alma mater, on why I disagreed with the concept of the dysplastic nevus. My lecture was titled: “Dysplastic Nevus: Fact or Fiction?” Bernie was a big influence on what I discussed in that lecture, and it generated a ...

Seborrheic keratosis is a common skin lesion which may coincidentally be associated melanocytic nevi. The authors describe a case of dysplastic nevus associated with seborrheic keratosis and discuss the clinical, dermoscopic, and histological findings of this association. They also discuss the association between seborrheic keratosis and other benign and malignant tumours.
