Nonocclusive blood clots only partially fill blood vessels and together with the adjacent vessel wall form a channel through which blood flows at usually much higher velocities than in normal vessels. Our aim was to find a theoretical explanation for the experimentally observed fact that fast flowing blood through the channel has a large effect on the increase of the clot dissolution rate compa...

I discuss the possibility that the quark-gluon plasma at strong coupling admits a description in terms of a black hole in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. Prepared for the Proceedings of Recent Developments in Gravity – NEB XIII, Thessaloniki, Greece, June 2008. Research supported in part by the US Department of Energy under grant DE-FG05-91ER40627. Although not listed on the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), like standard USP 2, small volume USP 2 dissolution apparatus has gained a great deal of attention, especially for cases where small amount of drug product is available for testing in research and design step or evaluations are to be made on a tablet containing trace amounts of the active pharmaceutical ingredient. In this work, first...

The dissolution of deposited, protective iron carbonate fi lms in oil and gas transportation pipelines may drastically enhance corrosive processes on steel surfaces, and thus, seriously affect the longevity of the equipment in use. An investigation had been carried out to get a better understanding of the kinetics and underlying mechanism of fi lm dissolution, as well as to provide baseline dat...

The topological evolution of the cleavage surface of a gypsum single crystal during its dissolution in a flowing undersaturated aqueous solution has been observed with an atomic force microscope. The matter transfer from solid to liquid proceeds through the migration of atomic steps. The step velocity has been measured and appears to depend on the force applied by the tip on the surface. Wherea...

Paxt 1 of the study is concerned with the dissolution of a gas bubble in quiescent. degassed blood and plasma. This paper is an extension of the experimental study to include the case in which the gas bubble dissolves in degassed blood and plasma impinging upon it. Results are compared with those of part I and the effects of relative motion between the bubble and the liquid are examined. It is ...

The objective of this study was to prepare baicalin solid nanocrystals (BCN-SNS) to enhance oral bioavailability of baicalin. A Box-Behnken design approach was used for process optimization. The physicochemical properties and pharmacokinetics of the optimal BCN-SNS were investigated. Multiple linear regression analysis for process optimization revealed that the fine BCN-SNS was obtained wherein...

We present various aspects of the saturation model which provides good description of inclusive and diffractive DIS at small x. The model uses parton saturation ideas to take into account unitarity requirements. A new scaling predicted by the model in the small x domain is successfully confronted with the data.
