Bone grafting is a commonly used orthopedic surgical procedure that will provide bone formation in bone defects or regions of defective bone healing. A major complication following bone grafting is a postoperative recipient graft site infection that is associated with substantial mortality and increased use of medical resources. Background. Peripheral nerve injury treatment options are limited to primary nerve repair, nerve grafting, and tendon transfers. In this case, a large suitable donor site was easily accessible and delayed grafting was indicative of poor prognosis. Case Description. A case of delayed biliary obstruction and cholangitis, occurring in the setting of chronic allograft rejection, 8 years after liver transplantation using the gallbladder-conduit, is presented. Extrahepatic biliary obstruction may be seen in the late follow-up of liver grafting and rejection phenomena may play a significant role in the development of such obstruction.

OBJECTIVES The objective of this study is to mathematically evaluate the influence of multiple factors on implant stability quotient values in clinical practice. PATIENTS AND METHODS Resonance frequency analysis was performed at T1 (measured immediately at the time of implant placement) and at T2 (measured before dental restoration) in 177 patients (329 implants). Using a multivariate linear ...

To examine the role of early excision and grafting in the preservation of maximal function of hands with deep dermal burns, we prospectively evaluated 164 burned hands in consecutively admitted patients (mean age, 29 years; mean burn size, 37% of body surface). All hands with burn depths of second degree, deep second degree, or third degree above the level of the tendons and joint capsules were...

Extraarticular metacarpal fractures are common during childhood, and osseous healing is the rule. We have treated two patients with delayed and nonunion of three metacarpal shafts. One patient sustained closed second and third metacarpal fractures, and the other sustained an open second metacarpal fracture. Both injuries were crush-type of significant force. Although initial treatment seemed ap...

This is a case report of a 58-year-old obese, diabetic female who sustained a dorsally angulated distal radius fracture, treated with a volar locking plate. Union was delayed and the plate broke. The fracture healed after repeated surgery involving replacement of the plate and grafting with demineralised bone matrix. Delayed unions of distal radius fractures are rare. This case shows that fract...

In recent years autogenous cancellous bone grafting has become the standard treatment for delayed union offractures in many centres. In this technique strips ofiliac bone are applied subperiosteally around the fracture site like barrel staves, which are held in position merely by suture of the overlying periosteum. Nevertheless the literature contains surprisingly few reviews extensive enough t...
