Received: 15 December 2004; Revised: 26 January 2005 Abstract Copper zinc oxide catalysts prepared similar to industrially used catalysts were studied by high-resolution electron microscopy. The microstructure of the Cu/ZnO catalysts deviates considerably from that of bulk copper metal and idealized copper model systems. In order to reveal reliable structure-activity relationships for copper ca...

Three-dimensional Cu-Si and Cu-SiO(2) nanorod arrays containing ~68 at% Cu have been fabricated by a glancing angle co-deposition technique. By selectively etching Cu in 0.05 M KCN methanol solution, porous nanorods with different shapes form, which are promising for applications in sensors, catalysts, and as medical capsules that are able to be loaded with functional materials.

Two-component reaction of 2-aminobenzophenones with acetylenic esters in the presence of γ-Al2O3 and Cu/ZnO as suitable heterogeneous catalysts has been studied. Nano γ-Al2O3 and Cu/ZnO showed high activities when used as surface catalysts for the synthesis of quinoline derivatives. After completion of the reaction, the catalyst was ...

Cobalt-based perovskite catalysts showed excellent performance towards NO-NO2 oxidation. We systematically investigated the influence of different levels of Cu-doping on the catalytic performance of hexagonal phase LaCoO3 (LaCo1-xCuxO3 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3)) for NO oxidation. The catalytic activities of the oxide catalysts followed the sequence: LaCo0.9Cu0.1O3 > LaCoO3 > LaCo0.8Cu0.2O3 > LaCo0.7C...

Iron-based catalysts were prepared by using promoters (K, Ru, Cu) and synthesis and activation protocols that inhibit sintering of oxide precursors and favor the nucleation of small Fe carbide crystallites. The effects of promoters on reduction/carburization behavior, on Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) rates, and on the number of CO binding sites formed during reaction were examined by combinin...

Cu(II) precursors ligated to phenanthrolines are reduced in situ by alcohols or amines in the presence of a base (Cs(2)CO(3)) to generate Cu(I) species which are active catalysts in C-N and C-O cross-coupling reactions. The conversion Cu(II) --> Cu(I) has been evidenced and monitored by UV-vis and NMR spectroscopy.

The bifunctional nature of Cu-ALOx-on-carbon catalysts, used in the direct catalytic conversion of ethanol to ethyl acetate, prompted an examination of the dispersion of Cu on the composite catalyst. For this, the NzO-method of Osinga et al. for estimation of bare metallic copper surface on composite copper catalysts has been adapted for use on a gravimetric adsorption unit and Ohen applied to ...

A current problem in petrochemical industry is the elimination of crude glycerol which is 11 the by-product of biodiesel production obtained during the transesterification of vegetable oils and 12 animal fats. In this work are presented the results of characterisation of mesoporous ceria, zirconia 13 and mixed cerium-zirconium oxide modified with gold and/or copper species and their application...

Crystalline and amorphized MOFs (Cu(3)(BTC)(2)) have been demonstrated to be excellent catalysts for CO oxidation. The catalytic activity can be further improved by loading PdO(2) nanoparticles onto the amorphized Cu(3)(BTC)(2).
