Comparison of the types of Ixala klotsi (Sperry) and Pterospoda nigrescens (Hulst) shows that they are the same species, with Ixala klotsi a synonym of Pterospoda nigrescens. A lectotype of Selidosema nigrescens is designated, and the types of Selidosema nigrescens and Ixala klotsi are illustrated. Male and female habitus and genitalia of Pterospoda nigrescens are illustrated.

To analyze somatosensory neuron diversity in larval zebrafish, we identified several enhancers from the zebrafish and pufferfish genomes and used them to create five new reporter transgenes. Sequential deletions of three of these enhancers identified small sequence elements sufficient to drive expression in zebrafish trigeminal and Rohon-Beard (RB) neurons. One of these reporters, using the Fru...

BACKGROUND Plants growing on alpine meadows are reported to be rich in phenols. Such compounds may affect ruminal fermentation and reduce the plants' methanogenic potential, making alpine grazing advantageous in this respect. The objective of this study was to quantify nutrients and phenols in Alpine forage grasses, herbs and trees collected over 2 years and, in a 24 h in vitro incubation, thei...

The sensitivity of different plant species to mutagenic agents is related to the DNA content and organization of the chromatin, which have been described in ABCW and bodyguard hypotheses, respectively. Plant species that have B chromosomes are good models for the study of these hypotheses. This study presents an analysis of the correlation between the occurrence of B chromosomes and the DNA dam...

The polyphenol plant extracts content seems to be responsible for the scavenging activity of the reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in protection against DNA damage induced by the oxidative stress. This assumption was verified analyzing the effect of six Mediterranean plant extracts (Crepis vesicaria L, Origanum heracleoticum, Scandix australis L, Amaranthus sp., Scolymus hispanicus L, Th...
