Solid-state nuclear track detectors, such as CR-39, are widely used in physics and in many inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments. In the ICF experiments, the particles of interest, such as D(3)He-protons, have ranges of order of the detector thickness. In this case, the dynamic range of the detector can be extended by recording data on both the front and back sides of the detector. High...
Energetic ions and ultrashort X-rays were generated by an intense ultrashort laser interacting with a copper target. Fast ions up to 3 MeV were observed with CR-39 nuclear track detector sheets when 7 TW laser was used. Cu ∼ Cu ions with the energy from 50 keV to 220 keV were detected with a Thomson parabola detector in the case of the laser power of 2.5 TW. Time-resolved X-ray diffraction was ...
Introduction: Radon is a colorless inert gas which decay products are the main component of natural radioactive elements that are naturally produced in under layers of earth crust by decay of radium and uranium. It enters through buildings via gaps and cracks. Radon gas decay products like alpha particle can increase the incidence of lung cancer in human. Since every person sp...
It is well established that the bulk etch rates for solid state nuclear track detectors are a ected by the concentration and the temperature of the etchant. Recently, we found that the bulk etch rate for the LR 115 detector to be a ected by stirring during etching. In the present work, the e ects of stirring on the bulk etch rate of the CR-39 detector is investigated. One set of sample was etch...
The bulk etch rate for CR-39 in NaOH/ethanol was faster than those in aqueous solution of NaOH (NaOH/H2O). Furthermore, a layer of precipitate always accumulates on the surface of CR-39 detector during etching in NaOH/ethanol, which is absent during etching in NaOH/H2O. In the present work, mass spectrometry results have shown that the same etched products are present in the etchants of NaOH/H2...
The effects of UVC exposure on the track etch rate Vt and the detector sensitivity V of CR-39 SSNTDs were investigated through the diameters and depths of alpha-particle tracks. Both the bulk etch rate Vb and Vt increased but V decreased. The track diameters and depths were used to derive a V function for CR-39 detectors with and without UV irradiation. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. The effect of annealing on track density in unirradiated CR-39 and gamma irradiated CR-39 neutron detectors was investigated. One group of CR-39 detectors (25.4 x 12.7 x 0.635 mm) was irradiated with 1.3 kGy of 6oCo gamma rays. The other group of detectors was not irradiated with gamma radiation. The two sets of detectors were then annealed at temperatures ranging from room temperature (2OOC) t...
We report on the absolute calibration of amicro channel plate (MCP) detector, installed asdetector in a Thomson parabola spectrometer. Thecalibration delivers the relation between a registeredcount numbers in the CCD camera (on which the MCPphosphor screen is imaged) as a result of the impact ofan ion beam onto the MCP. The particle response ofthe whole detection...
In this study, calibration process was carried out for deigned new CR-39 nuclear track detector for protons, neutrons and alpha particles separately under the same etching condition. In order to aim this purpose, americium-beryllium standard source (241Am-Be) and Plexiglas phantom for neutron irradiation, brass collimators and americium standard source (241Am) for alpha irradiation and the acce...
