The locality of bulk physics at distances below the AdS length scale is one of the remarkable aspects of AdS/CFT duality, and one of the least tested. We outline the structure of boundary conditions in conformal field theory. A boundary condition is specified by a consistent collection of reflection coefficients for bulk fields on the disk together with a choice of an automorphism ω of the fusion rules that preserves conformal weights. Non-trivial automorphisms ω correspond to D-brane configurations for arbitrary conformal field theories.

We discuss the effect of boundaries in boundary logarithmic conformal field theory and show, with reference to both c = −2 and c = 0 models, how they produce new features even in bulk correlation functions which are not present in the corresponding models without boundaries.
