Advances in computer hardware often have little impact until they become accessible to programmers using high-level languages. For example, the IEEE floating-point arithmetic standard provides various rounding modes and exceptions, but it is difficult or impossible to take advantage of these from most high-level languages, so the full capabilities of IEEE-compatible hardware are seldom used. Wh...
As we advance into the new century, computers of the future will require techniques for arithmetic operations that take advantage of the modern technology and yield accurate results. Floating-point arithmetic has been in use for nearly forty years but is plagued with inaccuracies and limitations which necessitates introduction of a new concept in computer arithmetic called composite arithmetic....
Computer arithmetic is one of the more important topics within computer science and engineering. The earliest implementations of computer systems were designed to perform arithmetic operations and most if not all digital systems will be required to perform some sort of arithmetic as part of their normal operations. This reliance on the arithmetic operations of computers means the accurate repre...
The papers in this special section focus on emerging and impacting trends computer arithmetic field encompasses the definition standardization of systems for computers. It also deals with issues pertaining to hardware software implementations, testing, verification. Researchers practitioners work challenges associated using Computer Arithmetic perform scientific engineering calculations. As suc...
We study the performance of affine arithmetic as a replacement for interval arithmetic in interval methods for ray casting implicit surfaces. Affine arithmetic is a variant of interval arithmetic designed to handle the dependency problem, and which has improved several interval algorithms in computer graphics.
Quantum computer requires quantum arithmetic. The sophisticated design of a reversible arithmetic logic unit (reversible ALU) for quantum arithmetic has been investigated in this letter. We provide explicit construction of reversible ALU effecting basic arithmetic operations. By provided the corresponding control unit, the proposed reversible ALU can combine the classical arithmetic and logic o...
We present a radix-10 variant of the BKM algorithm. It is a shift-and-add, CORDIC-like algorithm that allows fast computation of complex exponentials and logarithms. This radix-10 version is suitable for implementation in a pocket computer. Key-words: Elementary functions, CORDIC algorithms, Computer Arithmetic, radix10 arithmetic
