Psychological theories and research often assume nations are culturally homogeneous and stable. But global demographic, political, and economic changes and massive immigration have sparked new scholarly and policy interest in cultural diversity and change within nations. This chapter reviews interdisciplinary advances linking culture and psychological development. These challenge and strengthen...

A bstract As put forward in [1] topological quantum field theories can be projected using so-called projection defects. The theory and its correlation functions completely realized within the unprojected one. An interesting example is case of associated to IR fixed points renormalization group flows, which by this method inside UV. In note we show that defects triangulated defect categories (su...

The use of ‘alternative’, ‘complementary’ and ‘conventional’ as adjunctive terms in medicine has emerged from a predominantly Western perspective on the treatment of disease. Definitions of what constitutes a complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) vary, but CAM is generally used as an umbrella term to refer to any treatment that falls outside the sphere of the conventional Western medical ...

Creep damage in polycrystalline metallic materials can be attributed to cavitation and cracking along the grain interfaces. Theories of creep cavitation that have been developed in recent years are reviewed. Further evaluation and/or refinement of these theories has been retarded by a lack of an experimental counterpart. Small angle neutron scattering studies (SANS) provide one experimental too...

To consider how interdisciplinary P-20 partnerships increase college-going rates among Chicano/Latino youth, the authors highlight evidence from the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, a P-20 partnership that builds academic achievement and college and career pathways. Three elements advance EPC effectiveness: collaborative governance structures sus...

When people have to make predictions and diagnosis they make use of their causal knowledge. This knowledge refers to two constituting aspects of causality: sufficiency and necessity. In standard theories both aspects are considered as being independent from each other. The present research tests this assumption. In an experiment we examined how peoples confidence in one of both aspects is affec...

Consistent perturbation theory for thermodynamical quantities in strongly type II superconductors in magnetic field at low temperatures is developed. It is complementary to the existing expansion valid at high temperatures. Magnetization and specific heat are calculated to two loop order and compare well with existing Monte Carlo simulations, other theories and experiments. Typeset using REVTEX 1

The immune system recognizes a myriad of invading pathogens and their toxic products. It does so with a finite repertoire of antibodies and T cell receptors. We here describe theories that quantify the dynamics of the immune system. We describe how the immune system recognizes antigens by searching the large space of receptor molecules. We consider in some detail the theories that quantify the ...

Selective adsorption and surface hydrolysis of [Fe(CN)6](3-) anions on α-Fe2O3 crystals was found to be a crucial process in the formation of a snowflake-like morphology, and the established mechanism is complementary to the classical theories of crystal growth.
