Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most popular psychiatric medications that are approved for several neuropsychiatric conditions such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). On the other hand, clomipramine is a tricyclic anti-depressant which is the only approved medication, among this class, to treat OCD due to its substantial effects on serotonergic sys...

Twelve subjects with a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who had not shown response to amitryptiline and imipramine/behaviour therapy underwent a cross over double blind trial with clomipramine and nortryptiline. Subjects who had earlier not shown response to the other drugs did not show response to clomipramine. The implications of these findings for clinical management are discussed.

Mu-opioid agonists are effective analgesics but have undesirable effects such as sedation and abuse liability that limit their clinical effectiveness. Serotonergic systems also modulate nociception, and serotonin uptake inhibitors may be useful as adjuncts to enhance analgesic effects and/or attenuate undesirable effects of mu agonists. This study examined the effects of the serotonin uptake in...

The treatment recommendations in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) after lack of response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) include augmentation with other drugs, particularly clomipramine, a more potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI), or antipsychotics. We present two cases of response to lamotrigine augmentation in treatment-refractory OCD; each received multiple SRI tr...

Background and Objectives: The aim of the study was to examine the antidepressant effect of a single pulse dose of intravenous clomipramine (200 mg i.v.) followed by oral administration as an alternative method to electroconvulsive therapy. OBJECTIVE Serotonin and norepinephrine systems are involved in the neural control of lower urinary tract function. The aim of this study was to compare the response on striated anal sphincter electromyographic (SAS-EMG) activity and cystometric parameters, when duloxetine and clomipramine were intravenously administrated. METHODS The effects of intravenous 1 and 2 mg./Kg. duloxetine or clomip...

BACKGROUND Body dysmorphic disorder (preoccupation with an imagined or slight defect in appearance) is a common and disabling disorder associated with high rates of delusional symptoms and suicide attempts. Although preliminary studies suggest that serotonin reuptake inhibitors may be effective for body dysmorphic disorder, to date no controlled treatment studies have been published. METHODS ...

Forty nondepressed women displaying severe premenstrual irritability and/or dysphoria and fulfilling the DSM-III-R criteria of late luteal phase dysphoric disorder were treated daily for 3 menstrual cycles with either the potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor clomipramine (25-75 mg; flexible dosage) (n = 20) or placebo (n = 20). In both treatment groups premenstrual irritability and dysphoria (as...
