Two new chalcones, 3-hydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxychalcone (1) and 3,2'-dihydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxychalcone (2), were isolated from the flowers of Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn together with two known flavones, 7-O-methylwogonin (3) and eucalyptin (4). The structures of the new compounds 1 and 2 have been established by extensive 2D-NMR and ESI-TOFMS studies.
Gilbert, Walter R., Jr. (Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.) and Bernard F. Fetter. Experimental infection in the rabbit with Trichosporon capitatum. J. Bacteriol. 84:961-966. 1962.-Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits were inoculated intravenously with a saline suspension of spores and hyphal fragments of Trichosporon capitatum. Nine of the animals succumbed spontaneously. The others we...
Craterispermum capitatum and C. gabonicum, two new species of Rubiaceae, are described from the Lower Guinea and Congolian Domains. Detailed descriptions and distribution maps are provided for each species, their conservation status is assessed and their taxonomic affinities are discussed. Craterispermum gabonicum is unique within the genus because of the strong dimorphism in brevistylous and l...
The aim of this study is to investigate the pharmacological effects of the methanolic extract of Clerodendron capitatum, CC, (family verbenaceae). These investigations were carried out on isolated frog rectus abdominus muscle and rabbit aortic strips and jejunum and non-pregnant rat uterus pretreated with oestradiol. Results showed that CC did not demonstrate any contracting, relaxant or blocki...
From the aerial parts of Clerodendrum inerme, two megastigmane glucosides (sammangaosides A and B) and a iridoid glucoside (sammangaoside C) were isolated together with 15 known compounds. The structural elucidations were based on analyses of physical and spectroscopic data.
1. Constraints of resource allocation between reproduction and adult survival have been implicated in much life-history variation, yet physiological or functional trade-offs with juvenile survival may be just as important. Here, we examined selection on a juvenile trait that is a key determinant of semelparous (monocarpic) vs. iteroparous (polycarpic) life-history expression. 2. In Erysimum cap...
Clerodendrum umbellatum Poir (Verbenaceae) is traditionally used in Cameroon for the treatment of many diseases including intestinal helminthiasis. This study was undertaken to assess the in vivo antischistosomal activity of its leaves aqueous extract on a Schistosoma mansoni mice model and to determine the most effective dose of this extract. Mice showing a patent infection of S. mansoni were ...
The antifungal activity of the dealcoholized extract of the leaves of Clerodendrum infortunatum Retz. was determined on four different fungal organisms. The crude leaf extract significantly inhibited the growth of A. niger; P. frequentance; P. notataum and B. cinera when tested by turbidity and spore germination methods in concentration dependent fashion. The effects produced by the extract wer...
The genus Clerodendrum L. (Family: Lamiaceae) is very widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. More than five hundred species of the genus are identified till now, which includes small trees, shrubs and herbs. Ethno-medical importance of various species of Clerodendrum genus has been reported in various indigenous systems of medicines and as folk medicines. The genus...
