Clavicle fractures are common in adults and children. Most commonly, these fractures occur within the middle third of the clavicle and exhibit some degree of displacement. Whereas many midshaft clavicle fractures can be treated nonsurgically, recent evidence suggests that more severe fracture types exhibit higher rates of symptomatic nonunion or malunion. Although the indications for surgical f...

According to the literature, thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) secondary to the malunion of displaced fractures of the clavicle is rare. Various surgical methods, including simple neurolysis, resection of the first rib or clavicle and corrective osteotomy, have been reported. We report a case of TOS secondary to malunion of the clavicle that was treated by an anterior and middle scalenectomy witho...

Desmoplastic fibroma of bone is a rare locally aggressive, but non-metastatic tumor. In this case report, we present a desmoplastic fibroma in an unusual location, the clavicle. Desmoplastic fibroma involving the clavicle is extremely rare, with only 2 reported cases before 1985. We report the imaging findings of a desmoplastic fibroma of the clavicle with a review of the relevant literature.

BACKGROUND Lateral clavicle fractures have been reported after coracoclavicular (CC) ligament reconstructions with bone tunnels through the clavicle. PURPOSE To biomechanically compare clavicle strength following 2 common CC reconstruction techniques with different bone tunnel diameters. STUDY DESIGN Controlled laboratory study. METHODS Testing was performed on 2 groups of matched-pair ca...

The S-shaped clavicle poses a problem for intramedullary pin fixation. Stability of fracture fixation is closely related to the length of intramedullary pin engagement. This study was carried out to determine the engagement length of intramedullary pins into clavicular fractures using a small and a large pin. Seven pairs of fresh cadaveric clavicles were prepared and arranged into Group 1 and G...

Introduction: Fractures of the clavicle are common and make up 5% 10% of all fractures. Treatment options in part depend on the location of the fracture along the bone and degree of displacement. These two parameters are best determined by good quality, standardized radiographs of the clavicle. We reviewed the literature to determine the optimal radiographs of clavicle fractures and their influ...

BACKGROUND Large multi-centre studies of clavicle fractures have so far been missing. The aim of this observational study was to describe the epidemiology, classification and treatment of clavicle fractures in the The Swedish Fracture Register (SFR) that collects national prospective data from large fracture populations. METHODS Data were retrieved from the SFR on all clavicle fractures susta...

OBJECTIVE The clavicle is almost always seen in skull X-rays of infants. The objectives of this study were to determine how often the clavicle and clavicle fractures are visible but missed on the skull anterior-posterior view (skull AP) of infants and which factors are associated with missing the diagnosis. METHODS We retrospectively studied patients aged 1 year or younger who had a skull AP ...

BACKGROUND The clavicle is the most frequently fractured bone of the human skeleton. Most of fractures occur at the middle third of the shaft of the bone. Anatomical variations in the clavicle of relevance to form intramedullary fixation. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was attempted to know about comparative differences between curvatures of the right and left clavicles, from certain me...

Introduction Clavicle fractures are common injuries treated by orthopedic surgeons, with most injuries managed nonoperatively. Operative fixation of clavicle fractures is indicated in specific clinical scenarios such as open injuries, ipsilateral shoulder trauma, or fractures with associated neurovasculature compromise. Operative fixation is not widely accepted for closed injuries and is typica...
