Performance Evaluation of the Recursive Least Square Algorithm in Electronic Dispersion Compensation
Efficient and low-cost dispersion compensation is necessary to achieve useful transmission distances in optical communication systems at bit rate of 10 Gb/s.In this paper electronic feed forward equalization is performed to mitigate the link chromatic dispersion. The filter coefficients are computed by a decision-directed process based on the recursive least square algorithm. Recursive least sq...
A novel method for the measurement of chromatic dispersion of an optical fiber based on wavelength-to-time mapping using a femtosecond pulse laser (FSPL) and an optical comb filter is proposed and experimentally evaluated. In the proposed approach, the spectrum of an ultrashort optical pulse generated by an FSPL is sliced by an optical comb filter. The spectrum-sliced optical pulse is then coup...
We investigate the chromatic dispersion properties of silicon channel slot waveguides in a broad spectral region centered at ~1.5 μm. The variation of the dispersion profile as a function of the slot fill factor, i.e., the ratio between the slot and waveguide widths, is analyzed. Two different dispersion regimes are identified. Keywordsintegrated optics; silicon photonics; dispersion.
We theoretically compare the tolerance to chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion of various modulation formats, electronic processing techniques, and optical equalizers. The comparison is given in terms of a target system outage probability.
In modern lightwave systems error correction has become a common feature to improve noise immunity. Electronic equalization increases tolerance against chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion. Combination of both methods promises further impovement.
A chromatic parameter space (CPS) representation is proposed to represent the operation of LCDs. Both chrominance and luminance are visualized in the CPS diagrams. All the usual display modes, both transmissive and reflective, such as TN, ECB, OMI, STN, and SBE are shown clearly on the diagrams. Two designs with the help of CPS are proposed and demonstrated: multicolor STN and a novel fully-com...
The use of quantum correlations between photons to measure polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and chromatic dispersion is investigated. Two types of apparatus are discussed which use coincidence counting of entangled photon pairs to allow sub-femtosecond resolution for measurement of both PMD and chromatic dispersion, as well as separation of even-order and odd-order chromatic effects in the PM...
In this work, we establish some efficient and practical design rules for the implementation of single-channel ultra-high speed (>160-Gbit/s) telecommunication systems based on dense dispersion management. Moreover, we analyze some of actual implementation issues such as slope compensation scenario, junction losses, polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion fluctuations.
The Optical communication network offers very high potential bandwidth and flexibility In terms of high bit-rate transmission. However, their performance slows down due to some parameter like dispersion, attenuation, scattering and unsynchronized bit pattern. A chromatic dispersion compensator plays an essential role in the optical fiber communications system in order to recover the degraded tr...
Crosstalk due to four-wave mixing (FWM) is the dominant nonlinear effect in long-haul multi-channel optical communication systems which can severely limit system performance. In this paper, we have simulated the effect of chromatic dispersion on FWM using equal and unequal channel spacing in terms input/output spectrum, eye diagram and bit error rate. Results show that the effect of FWM reduces...
