A 72-year-old woman was admitted in the Cardiology Department for respiratory insufficiency. ECG revealed atrial fibrillation, and echocardiography revealed heart failure with an estimated left ventricular ejection fraction of 25%. Chest roentgenogram revealed multiple nodules, and chest CT scan revealed multiple dense nodules surrounded by ground-glass attenuation (halo sign) with unilateral p...
We describe a case of Nocardia bronchopneumonia occurring in a patient after 5 weeks of treatment in an ICU. The clinical features were haemoptysis and fever, and an aspecific coarse nodular pattern on the chest roentgenogram. The diagnosis was made, after death, by positive blood cultures for Nocardia asteroides and autopsy showing Nocardia bronchopneumonia.
We examined an 86-year-old man with acute respiratory failure. A chest roentgenogram showed diffuse reticular shadows. Transbronchial biopsy revealed thickening of the alveolar septa accompanied by moderate eosinophil infiltration. After admission to the hospital, the patient's symptoms immediately improved without any medication. Clinical course and pathologic findings suggested acute eosinoph...
A 60-year-old man had noted exertional dyspnea and left anterior chest pain. A chest roentgenogram showed the presence of a giant mass and computed tomography (CT) of the chest confirmed the mass with an inhomogeneous density in the left hemithorax. A transthoracic TruCut needle biopsy of the mass showed benign fibrous tissue. The patient underwent a thoracotomy. A tumor arose from the visceral...

Opportunistic infections are common in patients after renal transplantation. This report describes a case of cytomegalovirus pneumonia in a renal transplant recipient with a normal chest roentgenogram and normal arterial oxygenation. An abnormal 111In-white blood cell scan led to the discovery of a pulmonary source of his recurrent fevers.
