Animal diversity is declining worldwide, and our efforts to document this change are hampered by inaccurate estimates of the true number of species. The number of described (formally named) species has been estimated to be between 1.2–2.2 million (Stork 1988; Grove & Stork 2000), with insects by far the most dominant group (751,012 species according to Arnett 1985). As groups are revised and ty...
The cosmopolitan genus Anagrus Haliday is one of the largest in Mymaridae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea), and includes very common egg parasitoids, mostly of leafhoppers. The smallest species (body length: 0.4-0.6 mm) are found in the atomus species group. This group at present includes about 20 species worldwide. Anagrus atomus (Linnaeus) is among the most common species in the Palaearctic region...
Chileana Janšta & Křížková gen. nov. and four new species, C. cyanea Janšta & Křížková sp. nov., C. maculata Janšta & Křížková sp. nov., C. tricarinata Janšta & Křížková sp. nov. and C. penai Janšta & Křížková sp. nov., all from Chile, are described. The placement of this new genus within the tribe Monodontomerini is discussed and several characters suggest a close relationship to Zaglyptonotus.
The Chinese fauna of the family Leucospidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) is reviewed and illustrated for the first time. Twelve species of Leucospis Fabricius, 1775 are recorded; of which two species are new to science: Leucospis aequidentatasp. n. and Leucospis shaanxiensissp. n. and one species is reported new for China: Leucospis intermedia Illiger, 1807. An identification key to Chinese spec...

An identification key to occurring in India also given.
Five different models have been proposed for the sex determination mechanism of Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera). Except for the most recently proposed model (genomic imprinting sex determination; GISD), each of these models has required complicating additions to explain observed phenomena. This report provides the first experimental test of the GISD model while simultaneously examining the four prev...
The three Pegoscapus species present the same internal reproductive tract features comprising testes with a single testicular tubule, seminal vesicles, vasa deferentia, accessory glands and an ejaculatory duct. The seminal vesicle shows two morphologically distinct portions although they do not resemble the separate chambers found in other Chalcidoidea. The anterior portion of the seminal vesic...
A quantitative catalogue of the parasitoids (almost exclusively Chalcidoidea) and inquiline Cynipidae recorded in the western Palaearctic from galls induced on Quercus by Cynipidae (Cynipini) is presented. Quantitative and national data are included with bibliographic references to almost all records published in 2011 and earlier. The catalogue is followed by two checklists, firstly one of the ...
