polymer-clay nano-composite materials, in which nano-meter thick layers of clay dispersed in polymer matrix, have generally higher mechanical properties than normal polymeric materials. a new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. the total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  numerical r...

Elastin is a protein of the extracellular matrix that forms the major component of elastic fibers from the arterial wall thickness and plays an important role in elastic properties of large blood vessels. To study the relationships between the Ser422Gly polymorphism in exon 16 of the gene-encoding elastin and the distensibility of 2 different arteries, the radial artery (a muscular artery) and ...

OBJECTIVE Age and high blood pressure are major risk factors for cerebral microbleeds (CMBs). However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear and arterial stiffness may be important. We investigated whether carotid arterial stiffness is associated with incidence and location of CMBs. APPROACH AND RESULTS In the prospective, population-based Age, Gene/Environment Susceptibility (AGES)-Reykja...

A new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. The total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  Numerical results are in good agreement with the previous proposed theoretical modeling. Higher matrix and inclusion elastic modulus both can dramatically influence the total elastic modulus.

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes (DM-2) and impaired glucose metabolism (IGM) are associated with an increased cardiovascular disease risk. In nondiabetic individuals, increased arterial stiffness is an important cause of cardiovascular disease. Associations between DM-2 and IGM and arterial stiffness have not been systematically investigated. METHODS AND RESULTS In a population-based cohort (n=747...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Arterial stiffness may indicate early vascular changes that predispose to the development of major vascular disease. The repeatability of a variety of indices of arterial stiffness calculated from a standard carotid arterial M-mode ultrasound image was investigated. METHODS Twenty-six asymptomatic normal subjects were imaged and had blood pressure recordings on each of ...

The elastic properties of carotid arteries of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive controls (Wistar-Kyoto rats [WKY]) were examined in vivo, in situ, and in vitro. The changes of internal diameter were measured with a high-resolution A-mode echo-tracking device simultaneously with the intra-arterial pressure at the carotid. The internal diameter at mean arterial blood pressure...

little is known about the interaction of tissue conditioners and modeling plastics. this study evaluates the influence of a variety of commercial tissue conditioners on alteration of viscoelastic properties of modeling plastics.in this in vitro study, the dynamic viscoelastic properties of four commercially available tissue conditioners (tc), visco-gel (vg), gc soft-liner (sl), fitt (ft), and c...
