A fox circovirus was identified in serum samples from foxes with unexplained neurologic signs by using viral metagenomics. Fox circovirus nucleic acid was localized in histological lesions of the cerebrum by in situ hybridization. Viruses from the family Circoviridae may have neurologic tropism more commonly than previously anticipated.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) is the etiologic agent of porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVAD). PCV-2 is classified into three genotypes. Here, we present the complete genomic sequences of two PCV-2 isolates (KM and H026) with an unusual sequence duplication in the rep gene coding for viral replicase proteins.

The porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) antibody and DNA status of porcine plasma products collected during the commercial spray-drying process were evaluated. Samples evaluated included 52 pooled liquid plasma (fresh) samples collected at 14 regional abattoirs before transport to 1 of 2 spray-drying facilities, 32 pooled liquid plasma (concentrated) samples collected after arrival at the spray-dr...

Background: Circoviruses are small, non-enveloped, single stranded DNA viruses. There is scarce information about these agents in non-psittacine birds. Aims: It is attempted to detect and characterize circoviruses in non-psittacine birds. Methods: Forty-five samples were collected from different non-psittacine species belonging to seven avian o...

Pigeon circovirus infection is an immunosuppressive disease of pigeons carried on by the widely recognized virus known as (PiCV). Additionally, due to PiCV’s activity, a group diseases collectively “young pigeon syndrome” (YPDS) occurs. This study aims provide information about transportation throughout world, symptoms that have been identified has progressed, and diagnostic methods recently de...

Circoviruses are present worldwide in birds and pigs but their occurrence in fish has not yet been reported. Recently, increased mortality was observed in barbel fry (Barbus barbus) in Hungary. This paper reports the detection of previously unknown circular viral DNA genomes in barbels by the use of a circovirus-specific wide-range nested PCR. The analysis of two complete genomes (Barbel circov...

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a small, non-enveloped, single-stranded DNA virus in the genus Circovirus within the family Circoviridae.1 It has been incriminated as a major causative agent of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), which is known as PCV2-associated diseases (PCVAD);2,3 PCVAD is considered to be an economically important global issue. Most Korean swine farms (95...

We report here for the first time the genome sequence of a rearranged porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) strain, CH-IVT1, isolated from PCV2-infected PK-15 cells. The complete circular genome of the CH-IVT1 is 605 nucleotides (nt) in length. The finding will help us to understand the molecular evolution of PCV2 and the relationship between PCV2 and PCV-associated diseases.

Six successive transmission trials were carried out from 4 to 39 days post inoculation (DPI) to determine the features of the infectious period for PCV2-infected pigs. The infectiousness of inoculated pigs, assessed from the frequency of occurrence of infected pigs in susceptible groups in each contact trial, increased from 4 to 18 DPI (0, 7 and 8 infected pigs at 4, 11 and 18 DPI, respectively...
