Abstract Calcareous nannofossils are < 30 µm sized calcitic fossil remains of single-celled marine photoautotrophic algae. Carbonate-rich sedimentary rocks, containing these fossils, used as raw material for lime-based mortars. The carbonates (CaCO 3 ) heated up to approx. 900 °C. burning process, which causes the thermal decomposition CaCO into CaO (= quicklime) and CO 2 , destroys fossils....
Calcareous floating periphyton mats in the southern Everglades provide habitat for a diverse macroinvertebrate community that has not been well characterized. Our study described this community in an oligotrophic marsh, compared it with the macroinvertebrate community associated with adjacent epiphytic algae attached to macrophytes in the water column, and detected spatial patterns in density a...
Along the line that health-beneficial foods must also be accompanied by sustainable agricultural practices, red alga Lithothamnium sp. (Rhodophyta), frequently used for animal and human nutrition, it was shown could a biofertilizer, regarding their bioactive humic acid content, released micronization. Also, onions present well-known benefits to health are among main vegetable crops grown worldw...
Coccoliths are micrometer scale shields made from 20 to 60 individual calcite (CaCO(3)) crystals that are produced by some species of algae. Currently, coccoliths serve as an important sink in the global carbon cycle, but decreasing ocean pH challenges their stability. Chalk deposits, the fossil remains of ancient algae, have remained remarkably unchanged by diagenesis, the process that convert...
The Yamama Formation was studied in three wells (Fh-1, Fh-2, and Fh-3) within Faihaa oil field, south Iraq. Thin sections were by using the polarizing microscope examination order to determine microfossils biozone. Thirty-five species of benthic foraminifera recognized, including four index species. In addition, twelve calcareous green algae two Other fossils that recognized include Gastropoda,...
Predictions about the ecological consequences of oceanic uptake of CO(2) have been preoccupied with the effects of ocean acidification on calcifying organisms, particularly those critical to the formation of habitats (e.g. coral reefs) or their maintenance (e.g. grazing echinoderms). This focus overlooks the direct effects of CO(2) on non-calcareous taxa, particularly those that play critical r...
