Five lots of phase 1 Q fever antigen suitable for use as vaccine were prepared utilizing the Freon-brushite method of antigen purification. Antigen concentration levels were initially adjusted turbidimetrically and later confirmed by antibody response in guinea pigs. Data showed that all lots were essentially identical in purity and antigenicity.
Brushite (CaHPO(4).2H(2)O) was considered to govern the formation of renal calculus of calcium phosphate origin. The degree of saturation of urine with respect to this phase was therefore calculated. This value was obtained from the ratio of the activity product of Ca(++) and HPO(4) (m) (K(sp)) before and after incubation of urine with brushite. The errors in the calculation of K(sp) were large...
The calcium phosphate composite octacalcium / calcite was obtained at pH 5–7 from the CaCO 3 /Ca(H 2 PO 4 ) aqueous suspension in a galvanostatic mode current density of 20 mA/cm for min. Drying 80 °C without precipitate maturation stage led to powder formation consisting brushite, and small amount phosphate. Prolonged air months hydrolytic transformation brushite into stabilized by calcite. us...
Formation of hydroxylapatite through the precipitation and evolution of calcium phosphate precursor phases under varying conditions of temperature (25–90 °C), pH (6.5–9.0), and calcium to phosphorus ratio (1.0, 1.33, 1.5, and 1.67) comparable to those found in many sediments and soils were studied. The products of low-temperature precipitation were analyzed by ex situ X-ray diffraction and SEM,...

In the present study, we have evaluated the effects of graphene oxide (GO) addition on the physical-mechanical-biological properties of calcium phosphate cement (CPC). The in vitro cellular responses of MG63 and in vivo tissue responses after the implantation of CPC/GO in parietal bone defects of wistar rats were also investigated. The brushite calcium phosphate cements were prepared by mixi...
Neutrophils from pig blood were disrupted by homogenisation or sonication and placed on an analytical sucrose gradient. Pig neutrophil azurophil granules were less dense than the specific granules, unlike those from neutrophils of most other mammalian species. Brushite crystals, which stimulate the respiratory burst in pig neutrophils, were found by electron microscopy to be phagocytosed. Membr...
Many of the bioactive agents capable of stimulating osseous regeneration, such as bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) or prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), are limited by rapid degradation, a short bioactive half-life at the target site in vivo, or are prohibitively expensive to obtain in large quantities. Rebamipide, an amino acid modified hydroxylquinoline, can alter the expression of key mediators of...
Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) should ideally have mechanical properties similar to those of the bone tissue the material is used to replace or repair. Usually, the compressive strength of the CPCs is reported and, more rarely, the elastic modulus. Conversely, scarce or no data are available on Poisson's ratio and strain-to-crack-initiation. This is unfortunate, as data on the elastic respons...
