over half of all reported traumatic brain injuries are the result of a motor vehicle accident. other then the direct head impact itself, the sheer forces of the accident can cause the brain also to collide against the internal bone of the skull. in fact, when a moving head comes to a quick stop, the brain continues in its movement, striking the interior of the skull. this can cause bruising of ...

Our study intends to examine whether the social brain theory is applicable to human individual differences. According to the social brain theory primates have larger brains as it could be expected from their body sizes due to the adaptation to a more complex social life. Regarding humans there were few studies about the relationship between theory of mind and frontal and temporal brain lobes. W...

We present the MR and single-photon emission CT findings in a 3-year-old patient in whom Klüver-Bucy syndrome developed after Reye syndrome. MR images showed diffuse brain atrophy, which was predominant in the temporal lobes, and single-photon emission CT scans showed decreased cerebral perfusion in the bilateral temporal lobes and associated cortical areas.

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was used to record the content of nitric oxide (NO) and copper in brain tissues (frontal lobes hippocampus) liver healthy rats after ischemia modeling. Ischemia simulated by ligation carotid arteries, followed taking 3 ml blood from common artery. Signals triple complexes (DETC) were recorded EPR (DETC)2-Fe2+-NO Cu(DETC)2. Based on direct measu...

Mercury (Hg), one of the elements most toxic to biota, accumulates within organisms throughout their lifespan and biomagnifies along trophic chain. Due key role in marine systems, cephalopods constitute a major vector Hg predators. Further, they grow rapidly display complex behaviours, which can be altered by neurotoxic Hg. This study investigated concentrations 81 cephalopod specimens sampled ...

Tuberculosis could involve every organ. CNS involvement occurs in 10–15% of patients with extra pulmonary tuberculosis. This paper presents an unusual case of tuberculoma. A 36- year-old man was referred to Qaemshahr Razi hospital with decrease in consciousness level and paraparesia. His brain MRI revealed small and multiple hyperatenuated lesions in pons, hypothalamus and temporal lobes. Analy...

Purpose: This study sought to determine sex differences in surface anatomical parameters (thickness and surface areas) of human cerebral cortex in different lobes of the left hemisphere in normal right-handed subjects and right-handed subjects suffering from Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 72 normal human brains...

Octopamine plays an important role in many behaviors in invertebrates. It acts via binding to G protein coupled receptors located on the plasma membrane of responsive cells. Several distinct subtypes of octopamine receptors have been found in invertebrates, yet little is known about the expression pattern of these different receptor subtypes and how each subtype may contribute to different beha...

This chapter addresses the assessment of functions related to the prefrontal region within frontal lobes. It is proposed in this chapter that the neuropsychological assessment of the prefrontal region of the brain can be divided into four functional categories: (1) executive cognitive, (2) behavioral/emotional self-regulatory, (3) activation regulating, and (4) metacognitive processes. The gene...
