Boronic acids have been widely used in a wide range of organic reactions, in the preparation of sensors for carbohydrates, and as potential pharmaceutical agents. With the growing importance of click reactions, inevitably they are also applied to the synthesis of compounds containing the boronic acid moiety. However, such applications have unique problems. Chief among them is the issue of coppe...

In the crystal, the title compound, C(12)H(19)BO(4), exists as a centrosymmetric O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded dimer. Dimers are linked via C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating an infinite zigzag chain oriented parallel to [1[Formula: see text]1]. The chains are assembled, giving sheets aligned parallel to (21[Formula: see text]) and inter-connected by weak C-H⋯π inter-actions, producing a three-dimensiona...

A bis-boronic acid modified electrode for the sensitive and selective determination of glucose concentrations has been developed. The electrochemical characteristics of the sensor with added saccharides were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The bis-boronic acid modified electrode was both sensitive and selective for glucose.

Red-shifted and near-infrared (NIR)-active rhodamine analogs and their boronic acid derivatives were synthesized and studied. These latter compounds function as fluorogenic NIR active substrates for sugar sensing. The effects of benzannulation and boronic acid functionalization on fluorophore optical and sensing properties are described.

2,6-Bis(alkenyloxy) substituted arylboronic acids can be cyclotrimerized with the help of a hexaol as a template. First, the boronic acids are assembled by boronic ester formation with hexahydroxy-bicyclo[2.2.2]octane. Next, the resulting triboronates are cyclized by ring-closing metathesis to yield trimacrocycles as diastereomeric E/Z mixtures. Catalytic hydrogenation yields a single saturated...

Several beta-lactamases, enzymes that play an important part in antibiotic resistance, have been purified by affinity chromatography on boronic acid gels. The procedure is rapid, appears to be selective for beta-lactamases, and allows a one-step purification of large amounts of enzyme from crude cell extracts. We have found the method useful for any beta-lactamase that is inhibited by boronic a...

Wound infection associated with carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in burn patients is a growing problem. One of the main mechanisms of resistance to carbapenem antibiotics is the ability of P. aeruginosa to produce carbapenemase enzymes. Klebsiella pneumonia carbapemenase (KPC) is an important type of carbapenemase which can hydrolyze carbapenem antibiotics. The Modified Hodge Test (M...

Saccharides - a versatile class of biologically important molecules - are involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, but their detection and quantification is challenging. Herein, surface plasmon resonance and self-assembled monolayers on gold generated from bis-boronic acid bearing a thioctic acid moiety, whose intramolecular distance between the boronic acid moieties i...

In the title compound, C(7)H(8)BNO(3), the mol-ecule lies on an inversion center leading to a statistical disorder of the B(OH)(2) and CONH(2) groups. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming sheets parallel to the bc plane. The B(OH)(2) and CONH(2) groups are twisted out of the mean plane of the benzene ring by 23.9 (5) and 24.6 (6)°, respectiv...
