An internal control of amplification was constructed by recombinant PCR to detect PCR inhibitors. This exogenous DNA was included in the reaction mixture and coamplified with the target gene. This detection was successfully applied to the diagnosis of whooping cough by amplification of a fragment of Bordetella pertussis IS481.
Bordetella holmesii, a human pathogen, can confound the diagnosis of respiratory illness caused by Bordetella pertussis. We present the draft genome sequences of two B. holmesii isolates, one from blood, F627, and one from the nasopharynx, H558. Interestingly, important virulence genes that are present in B. pertussis are not found in B. holmesii.
Bordetella pertussis is the causative agent of whooping cough, a highly contagious, acute respiratory illness that has seen resurgence despite the use of vaccines. We present the complete genome sequence of a clinical strain of B. pertussis, D420, which is representative of a currently circulating clade of this pathogen.
background: re-emergence of pertussis has been reported in iran despite a high rate of vaccination coverage. low efficacy of the vaccine might be due to the genetic divergence between clinical versus vaccine strains. in the current study, the genetic profiles of clinical isolates and vaccine strains of bordetella pertussis (b. pertussis) were assessed by using pulsed field gel electrophoresis (...
introduction: despite high level of vaccination against pertussis‚ whooping cough has re-emerged as a health threat, especially in infants. this could be related to expansion of bordetella pertussis with novel alleles for virulence factors including the pertussis toxin promoter, ptxp3. compared to ptxp1 strains‚ ptxp3 strains produce more pertussis toxin which results in immune suppression and ...
Pertussis is a severe respiratory disease caused by infection with the bacterial pathogen Bordetella pertussis The disease affects individuals of all ages but is particularly severe and sometimes fatal in unvaccinated young infants. Other Bordetella species cause diseases in humans, animals, and birds. Scientific, clinical, public health, vaccine company, and regulatory agency experts on these ...
Abstract Background Pertussis is an acute respiratory tract disease caused by Bordetella pertussis. In 2014, 24.1 million pertussis cases, resulting in 160,700 deaths, were estimated to have occurred worldwide. This study aimed determine the epidemiology of among patients with clinically compatible illness who visited selected hospitals Amhara Regional State Ethiopia. Methods A cross-sectional ...
INTRODUCTION Pertussis is a highly contagious disease caused by Bordetella pertussis. It poses a high morbidity and mortality rate, especially among infants younger than 6 months old. In Argentina, pertussis incidence and mortality have increased over the past three decades. OBJETIVE To establish Bordetella pertussisantibody titers among pregnant women in their third trimester and among newbo...
In order to initially colonize a host, bacteria must avoid various components of the innate immune system, one of which is complement. The genus Bordetella includes three closely related species that differ in their ability to resist complement-mediated killing. Bordetella parapertussis and Bordetella bronchiseptica resist killing in naïve serum, a characteristic that may aid in efficient respi...
