BACKGROUND Allograft tissue remains a valuable alternative for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. No study to date has correlated the effect of donor age to bone mineral density (BMD) in a large series of irradiated bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) allograft tissue. Hypothesis/ PURPOSE The authors attempted to correlate donor age with BMD in a large group of BPTB allograft specimens t...

We examined the cellular responses to various particles injected into the knees and the intramedullary femoral cavities of rats in the presence of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) plugs. The intra-articular particles were mainly ingested by synovial fibroblasts. Increased numbers of macrophages were not detected and there was only a slight increase in synovial thickness. Cellular responses in the ...

This Technical Note discusses an anterior cruciate ligament graft preparation technique to simplify and ease graft visualization, insertion, and fixation. Our technique incorporates a 2-mm central trough in the bone plug of the graft to improve one's ability to efficiently identify and orient the anterior cruciate ligament graft during insertion, and ensure correct screw placement and fixation.
