The microbial degradation of thiodiglycol, the primary hydrolysis product of sulfur mustard, by a pure culture of Alcaligenes xylosoxydans ssp. xylosoxydans (SH91) was accomplished in laboratory scale stirred tank reactors. This is a major component of the overall biodegradation process proposed for the complete mineralization of sulfur mustard. Several configurations were evaluated for degrada...

In this paper, we study batch codes, which were introduced by Ishai, Kushilevitz, Ostrovsky and Sahai in [4]. A batch code specifies a method to distribute a database of n items among m devices (servers) in such a way that any k items can be retrieved by reading at most t items from each of the servers. It is of interest to devise batch codes that minimize the total storage, denoted by N , over...

This study describes an alternative mixed culture fermentation technology to anaerobically convert lignocellulosic biomass into butyric acid, a valuable product with wide application, without supplementary cellulolytic enzymes. Rice straw was soaked in 1% NaOH solution to increase digestibility. Among the tested pretreatment conditions, soaking rice straw at 50°C for 72 h removed ~66% of the li...

1) There exists a study on employing mini-batch approach on SVRG, one of the VR methods. It shows that the approach cannot scale well that there is no significant difference between using 16 threads and more[2]. This study observes the cause of the poor scalability of this existing mini-batch approach on VR method. 2) The performance of mini-batch approach on distributed setting is improved by ...

Sensitivity analysis is done on the assumption of geometric batch arrivals used by several authors in the study of tradeoffs between real-time and non-real-time trafJic in a statistical multiplexer. This work finds the geometric batch arrival assumption conservative compared with correlated MMPP’s. The Poisson arrival assumption is much more optimistic that the geometric batch arrival assumption.

abstract the utility of carbon paste electrode for the determination of flavoxate hcl modified with flavoxate-tetraphenylborate (flx-tpb) and flavoxate-phosphotungestic acid (flx-pta) ion-pairs in batch mode is demonstrated. the electrodes revealed a nernstian response over a wide concentration ranges 1.39×10-5-1x10-2 mol l-1 and1×10-5-1x10-2 mol l-1 using flx-tpb and flx-pta, respectively. the...

It is well-known, but frequently overlooked, that low- and high-throughput molecular data may contain batch effects, i.e., systematic technical variation. Confounding of experimental batches with the variable(s) of interest is especially concerning, as a batch effect may then be interpreted as a biologically significant finding. An integral step toward reducing false discovery in molecular data...

This paper presents industrial experience with a resource-constrained batch process scheduling program. The batch process representation is loosely based on the ISA S88 batch process standard. This representation allows the import of batch process information from other software, e.g. batch process simulators. The scheduling algorithm is a non-optimization approach that proceeds in two steps. F...

Motivation Batch effects are one of the major source of technical variations that affect the measurements in high-throughput studies such as RNA sequencing. It has been well established that batch effects can be caused by different experimental platforms, laboratory conditions, different sources of samples and personnel differences. These differences can confound the outcomes of interest and le...
