Coarse grained models of monolayers of amphiphiles (Langmuir monolayers) have been studied theoretically and by computer simulations. We discuss some of the insights obtained with this approach, and present new simulation results which show that idealised models can successfully reproduce essential aspects of the generic phase behaviour of Langmuir monolayers.

Reactions of NH4 in water solutions with self-assembled monolayer (SAM) surfaces result in the deposition of ammonia in the monolayers. Similarities between this and the soft landing of ions seen in low energy gas phase ion± surface collisions suggest that monolayers can be used as matrices to preserve species. Ammonia can be incorporated only into thicker SAMs such as those made from octadecan...

This reports makes a comprehensive analysis and requirements study of a software platform for intellingent supply chain management by using wireless sensor networks as main innovative technology. The analysis includes both a business and software study of the supply chain’s stakeholders, their activities and requirements, and to what extend they can benefit from using a common software platform...

Surface functionalization and its potential application in different fields of science and technology make monolayer organic films attractive candidates as linkages between an underlying substrate and other molecular species. By now, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) [1,2] generated from either alkanethiols (RSH) or disulfides (RSSR) (R= CnH2n+1), have become a practical tool for homogeneous sur...

We review recent developments in the area of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and their applications. First, we discuss issues related to the structure, the phase transitions, the phase diagram, and the growth dynamics. We explain how the internal degrees of freedom and the multiple interactions involved can lead to a fairly rich phase behaviour even for systems which are commonly considered ‘s...
