None (In the course of studies about fungi associated with pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) die-back disease in the Ghaen region of south Khorasan (Iran), one species of Geosmithia was found. The isolates were identified as Geosmithia lavendula (Raper & Fennel I) Pitt based on its morphological and molecular properties. The genus Geosmithia (Ascomycota: Hypocreales) is belonging to mitosporic filame...

A new species of Taiwanascus, T. samuelsii, was collected from southern parts of Western Ghats on dead branches of Anacardium occidentale and is described. The new cleistothecial ascomycete is different from the type and only species in Taiwanascus, T. tetrasporus, in cleistothecial size, setae, and ascospore characteristics.

Here, we present the draft genome of the endofungal symbiotic bacterium Burkholderia contaminans 293K04B, isolated from Stachylidium bicolor 293K04 (Ascomycota). The fungus was originally isolated from the sponge Callyspongia cf. C. flammeaS. bicolor 293K04 produces the endolides A-B, bioactive cyclic peptides possibly biosynthesized by its endobacterium B. contaminans 293K04B.

The ambrosia beetle, Platypus koryoensis, is a serious pest of oak trees in Korea. In this study we investigated filamentous fungi present in the body of the beetle. Fourteen genera of filamentous fungi belonging to Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were isolated. Among the isolated fungi, some were able to produce wood degrading enzymes. This is first report of fungi associated with P. koryoensis.

BACKGROUND RNA secondary structure is highly conserved throughout evolution. The higher order structure is fundamental in establishing important structure-function relationships. Nucleotide sequences from ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes have made a great contribution to our understanding of Ascomycota phylogeny. However, filling the gaps between molecular phylogeny and morphological assumptions base...

Based on an overview of progress in molecular systematics of the true fungi (Fungi/Eumycota) since 1990, little overlap was found among single-locus data matrices, which explains why no large-scale multilocus phylogenetic analysis had been undertaken to reveal deep relationships among fungi. As part of the project "Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life" (AFTOL), results of four Bayesian analyses a...
