This paper reports the continuous reductive amination of different molecules, including biomass-related compounds, over carbon-supported FeNi nanoparticles obtained on the basis of inexpensive and abundant metal precursors and cellulose. A biorefinery case study for the preparation of pyrrolidones via acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of glucose followed by reductive amination of the obtained levulinic...

Levulinic acid (LA) is transformed into pyrrolidinones via iridium-catalysed reductive amination using formic acid as the hydrogen source under aqueous conditions. The catalytic system is the most active and performs under the mildest conditions ever reported for the reductive amination of LA.

Small molecules capable of eradicating non-replicating bacterial biofilms are of great importance to human health as conventional antibiotics are ineffective against these surface-attached bacterial communities. Here, we report the discovery of several halogenated quinolines (HQs) identified through a reductive amination reaction that demonstrated potent eradication of MRSA (HQ-6; MBEC = 125 μM...

A critical evaluation is presented of the scope of amination reactions with O-diphenylphosphinylhydroxylamine (O D PH ) as compared to those using hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid (H O SA ). Aminations with O D PH of isopropyl, r-butyl and cyclohexyl carbanions derived from the corresponding Grignard reagents, gave the corresponding amines in 36, 34 and 50 percent yields, respectively. The aminati...

An unprecedented direct reductive amination of electron-deficient amines such as Cbz-, Boc-, EtOCO-, Fmoc-, Bz-, ArSO(2)-, Ar(2)PO-, etc. protected amines with aldehydes is achieved using the Re(2)O(7) catalyst and silanes as the hydride source. Excellent regioselective mono-alkylation and chemoselective reductive-amination were observed.

An efficient Lewis acid-assisted, iron-catalyzed amination of alcohols using borrowing hydrogen methodology was developed. In particular, silver fluoride was identified to be a highly effective additive to overcome the low efficiency in the amination of secondary alcohols catalyzed by Knölker's complex.

A concise total synthesis of PDE-II featuring copper-mediated double aryl amination with the combination of CuI, CsOAc, and Cs2CO3 is described. The highly substituted pyrroloindole skeleton was constructed by a one-pot five-step sequence including double aryl amination, beta-elimination, deprotection of a Cbz group, and removal of an Ns group followed by rearomatization.

Selective α-amination and α-acylation of esters and amides have been developed, employing O-acylhydroxylamines as a dually reactive aminating and acylating reagent. Treatment of zinc enolates with O-acylhydroxylamines provides solely 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds under mild conditions. Introduction of a copper catalyst into the system shifts the reactivity entirely, yielding α-amination products exc...

Significant process intensification of the amination reactions of aryl halides and esters has been demonstrated using continuous flow processing. Using this technology traditionally difficult amination reactions have been performed safely at elevated temperatures. These reactions were successfully conducted on laboratory scale coil reactor modules with 1 mm internal diameter (ID) and on a prepa...

A redox amination strategy was developed for the synthesis of N-aryl-1-aminoindoles by N-N bond formation. Reaction of nitrosobenzenes with readily available indolines using Brønsted acid catalysis allows N-N bond formation under mild conditions. This method exploits the inherent reducing power of indoline to synthesize biologically relevant molecular architectures via redox amination. A one-po...
