Sugar molecules adsorbed at hydrated inorganic oxide surfaces occur ubiquitously in nature and in technologically important materials and processes, including marine biomineralization, cement hydration, corrosion inhibition, bioadhesion, and bone resorption. Among these examples, surprisingly diverse hydration behaviors are observed for oxides in the presence of saccharides with closely related...

pyrophyllite solid solutions, AlrSi.-.Al,oro-.(oHr*"), have been synthesized from a gel and from lightly ground and milled natural materials. Solid solutions crystalliTe from structurally degraded or amorphous starting materials due to the tendency for Al3* to enter tetrahedral sites. The extent of solid solution is small; synthesis from a gel yielded pyrophyllite with the formula Al2 o(Si3 rAL...

Hierarchical zeolites have been established as a superior type of aluminosilicate catalysts compared to their conventional (purely microporous) counterparts. An impressive array of bottom-up and top-down approaches has been developed during the last decade to design and subsequently exploit these exciting materials catalytically. However, the sustainability of the developed synthetic methods ha...

The addition of phenols to aryl-substituted alkynes to form 1,1-diarylalkenes was carried out by using the Fe-Al-MCM-41 catalyst. The catalyst showed remarkable improvement in time and yield in comparison to other solid catalysts. The heterogeneous catalyst can be reused at least three times without a significant loss in activity.

We study a calcium aluminosilicate glass of composition (SiO(2))(0.67)-(Al(2)O(3))(0.12)-(CaO)(0.21) by means of molecular-dynamics simulations, using a potential made of two-body and three-body interactions. In order to prepare small samples that can subsequently be studied by first principles, the finite size effects on the liquid dynamics and on the glass structural properties are investigat...

The present study investigated aluminosilicate gel in alkali-activated fly ash exposed to a CO₂-rich environment by means of NMR spectroscopy. The alkali-activated fly ash was exposed to an atmospheric CO₂ concentration of 10% after curing at 80 °C initially for 24 h. Under high concentrations of CO₂, highly reactive components Na and Al, which completely reacted within the first few hours, wer...

Large-pore microporous materials are of great interest to process bulky hydrocarbon and biomass-derived molecules. ITQ-27 (IWV) has a two-dimensional pore system bounded by 12-membered rings (MRs) that lead to internal cross-sections containing 14 MRs. Investigations into the catalytic behavior of aluminosilicate (zeolite) materials with this framework structure have been limited until now due ...

Temperature-programmed desorption of pyridine, FTIR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and catalytic test reaction have been applied to investigate acid sites in mesoporous materials with silicon/aluminum ratios of 266 and 20 and in an amorphous aluminosilicate with nSi/nAl=5.4. The results obtained by these methods indicate the presence of weak Brønsted acid sites in the aluminosilicate samples...
