Buried channels are one of the stratigraphic hydrocarbon traps. They are often filled with a variety of porous and permeable sediments so they are important in the exploration of oil and gas reservoirs. In reflection seismic data, high-frequency components are sensitive to the channel thickness, whereas, low-frequency components are sensitive to the channel infill materials. Therefore, decompos...

In this paper, we propose a texture-based interpretation workflow and apply to delineate salt domes in 3D migrated seismic volumes. First, we compute an attribute map using a novel seismic attribute, three-dimensional gradient of textures (3D-GoT), which measures the dissimilarity between neighboring cubes around each voxel in seismic volume across time or depth, crossline, and inline direction...

In this report, we present the implementation and final results of parallel programming on graphics processing units (GPUs) using NVIDIA’s parallel programming model which is known as the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) to perform the 3D finite-difference seismic forward modeling. The Tesla 10-series GPU (Tesla C1060) is used and results show that the massively parallel computational...

In this paper, stability of slopes with a shallow foundation located on top including the shape of the failure mechanism is investigated in static and seismic states. This is a three dimensional problem which is analyzed two dimensionally because 3D analyses are complex and appropriate softwares are not available. The conventional method of bearing capacity evaluation of foundations on top of ...

Dijkstra’s single-source shortest path algorithm has been applied in seismic tomography to determine paths of minimum travel time from all locations in a 3D earth model to sensors used in seismic experiments. An iterative data parallel algorithm is formulated for seismic tomography based on the Bellman-Ford-Moore (BFM) algorithm. Performance is demonstrated for OpenMP and OpenCL.

faults/fractures detection is an essential step of the full field study in hydrocarbon reservoir. definition of exact location of these structural events is a critical step to optimize location of the development wells. despite of the fast development of the geo science technology and oil industry in recent years, detection of the small geological events such as faults and fractures in some of ...

A novel approach to the automatic detection of fault surface images in 3D seismic datasets is presented. Based on the premise that seismic faulting introduces discontinuities into the rock layering (that is, the horizons), a coherency measure is used to detect points of significant horizon discontinuity. A highest confidence first (HCF) merging strategy is then combined with a flexible surface ...

any 3d seismic survey can have an acquisition footprint. acquisition footprint is an expression of the surface geometry (most common on land data) that leaves an imprint on the stack of 3d seismic data. often we recognize it as amplitude and phase variations on time slices, which of course display the amplitudes within our data set at a specified two way time (cordsen, 2004). on the other hand,...

[1] The most common form of seismic exploration remains a nearly linear survey with data acquisition lines including the source and receivers. The interpretation of amplitude and waveform information for such linear acquisition requires consideration of 3D seismic wavefields. In many scenarios the structure is approximately 2D, but still modeling is needed for point sources. In recent years 2.5...

This paper presents a 3D, volumetric, seismic fault detection system that relies on a novel set of nonlinear filters combined with a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) implementation, which makes interactive nonlinear, volumetric processing feasible. The method uses a 3D structure tensor to robustly measure seismic orientations. These tensors guide an anisotropic diffusion, which reduces noise in t...
