Abstract The nematode genus Acrobeles is composed of two morphological groups distinguished by the presence (‘double’ cuticle) or absence (‘single’ refringent inner layer cuticle. In present study, four species this genus, with ‘single’ cuticle ( ciliatus and cylindricus ) ‘double’ aenigmaticus complexus are studied from coastal dunes in Spain. This study provides detailed morphometrical analys...

Chlamydophila felis and feline herpesvirus (FHV) are pathogens commonly associated with feline respiratory and ocular disease. A real-time multiplex PCR assay was developed to allow detection of these organisms, together with feline 28S ribosomal DNA, in a single tube. Of 538 ocular swab samples tested, 123 were positive for FHV, 97 were positive for C. felis, and 16 were positive for both path...

We report the first two proven cases of cavitary pulmonary zygomycosis caused by Rhizopus homothallicus. The diagnosis in each case was based on histology, culture of the causal agent, and the nucleotide sequence of the D1/D2 region of the 28S ribosomal DNA.

To determine the molecular phylogenic location of Plagiorchis muris, 28S D1 ribosomal DNA (rDNA) and mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) were sequenced and compared with other trematodes in the family Plagiorchiidae. The 28S D1 tree of P. muris was found to be closely related to those of P. elegans and other Plagiorchis species. And, the mtCOI tree also showed that P. muris is ...

The polymerase chain reaction and hybridization to genomic blots were used to investigate whether the previously observed inclusion of 5S ribosomal RNA genes in the 28S-18S ribosomal DNA intergenic regions of some crustacean species (copepods) could also be detected in other arthropods. Such an arrangement was found not only in other calanoid copepod species but also in a cirriped, an euphausid...

Abstract The current shift of fishery efforts towards the deep sea is raising concern about vulnerability deep-water sharks, which are often poorly studied and characterized by problematic taxonomy. For instance, in Mediterranean Sea taxonomy genus Centrophorus has not been clearly unravelled yet. Since proper identification species fundamental for their correct assessment management, this stud...

Genetic variability of the nontranscribed spacer (NTS) region within ribosomal DNA repeating units in the various subspecies of Mus musculus was determined. Mice belonging to several laboratory mouse strains were examined by means of Southern blot hybridization with a mouse ribosomal DNA probe. This probe encompasses the 3' end of the 28S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene and the following spacer. Rest...

Human placental DNA, enriched for ribosomal sequences, was cloned in the phage vector lambda Charon 16A. Recombinants containing 28S rDNA sequences were isolated, and all were found to have deletions in the insert and/or vector DNA. Electron microscopic analysis was used to map the deletions and provide evidence that unstable forms of the recombinants can revert to the original vector or underg...
